Do you plan out your monthly purchases??
Question:

Being the implusive lad i used to be i'd normally buy a DVD as and when i fancied one/had money to burn. Now i'm in a job where i'm paid monthly i gotta be a bit more tactical and plan out those purchases.
Having never had to do this it's a bit like putting together a Christmas list :D, just looking through what's released in Sep and my list is growing rapidly :(
Anyone else do this or do you all just stick it on the CC and think "sod it".

I normally first see whats coming out months in advance from the word on the internet and make a decision on whether I should either pre order it, buy it second hand from the classifieds or I am not bothered.
The ones I pre order I just lash on the credit card and pay it off at the end of the month thus starting with a clean slate every month. But I do try and regulate how much I should spend... approx £100 a month but I do make some back from trading and selling. The only thing that does throw a spanner in the works is when a dvd supplier has a sale on. Then all logic can be thrown out the window and my cursor gets the 'click on add to cart button' syndrome.
So in answer to your question abit of both depending on how many pre-orders I already have that month.

150 quid , i feel guilty enough spending 50 - 70.
The only sales that tempt me are usually the MVC/HMV high street ones.
I guess sticking to one e-tailer has it's benefits in that i'm not too clued up on what deals are going around.
Got a feeling November is going to be mighty pricey, especially with that Band of Brother's Boxset and supa dupa Spidey boxset as well as most of this Summer's blockbusters. :o

I just see what coming out and whatever takes my fancy I order , tho I am down from £100 on DVD's to about £20 (saving atm) , so I have no real plan of action when it comes to buying DVD's :)

not plan particularly but have a budget (that never sticks!) living with parenst has its advantages, can afford about £50-£100 a week on dvds and other items (although mainly dvds!!)

I used to just look for the cheapest and pre order. Proven costly in the past, but what I do now is buy all my stuff from DVDSoon (well most the stuff I pre order)
As orders over 160 CA$ are free postage, and they charge your card on order, so I can pre order months ahead, and pay 70-80quid then and their for 5 + discs, for releases over the next few months, which in turn means I can stagger the cost of a heavy month over 2/3 months prior of quiet releases. And with partial shipping option means I avoid customs.
This way I do not end up with a huge wedge coming out unexpectly in a couple of months time, like november, and when Im saving it means I do not have to worry about funding DVD purchases as I have already paid for them, or when I have better uses for my cash around crimbo, when all the big releases are due, I have already pre ordered and paid for them.
I Try to spend less than £100 a month, but make most back trading, and spend a little on 2nd hand ones via here and uk.media.dvd.
Of course I can not resit the odd bargin now and again.
For R2s I just tend to see what offers are around, normally tescos vat free or a buy one get one free type offer.

Keep an eye out on these forums for big releases, check out peoples DVD Profilers lists in case I missed something.
Failing that sit on Amazon/Play pre-release page and then go and see how cheap I can get it elsewhere :norty:
So far have eight DVD's pre-ordered for September :dork:

Tend to plurge for a couple of weeks and then put my credit card into hibernation for a while.Although recently I've had a bit of success in winning DVD's :),which was nice.

I budget for 2 titles a month plus 2 impulse buys at 14.99 each. If I don't actually buy 4 titles, the money rolls over into the next months budget meaning I can buy 5 or more titles that month etc etc.
I've got quite a lot of money in the 'kitty' at the moment because I've only bought 1 or 2 discs in the past couple of months and some like The Fog have cost a lot less than 14.99 from places like CDWoW and DVDSoon, there's things like the free shipping at Devoted and TAU which have kept the cost of purchases well below the 14.99. I also budgeted for the Ealing comedy Boxset which I've managed to get for a shade over £10 thanks to amazon and the BTTF trilogy was very cheap thanks to CDWoW.
I can now buy 6 discs on top of the 4 I have budgeted for in September and not exceed the budget for that month. This is useful as October and November have a lot of releases I want and I would have had to put off buying them until I had the budget.:)

The way I do it is to go through the pre-release sections of etailers across 4 regions once every week or two and pre-order everything I want to own. Then, each week, I plan out my money against everything I will need to pay for that week, and prune down my DVD orders if necessary if there's not enough spare money. Everything that gets pruned off goes on a wanted list which I go through when I've got spare money or have nothing on pre-order for that week, and this list is also really handy for creating birthday lists etc.
I use a credit card for all my purchases, but I only use as a buffer to my bank account, and plan spending on it the same way as if I was paying directly from my current account.
