Question:
just saw it is listed as TBA on play.com i thought this was meant to be out next month???
any ideas anyone?
mwhahahah i rememeber watching that as a kid a few times... and i hopfully wont have to watch it again
it's out now - over on Mainland Europe.
I got the Dutch version for a friend from DVDZONE2.COM which is exactly the same as my R1 version (except in PAL of course). Dutch cases also have the titles and menus in English (though not the other text on the cover).
The R2 UK version of The Goonies is cut anyway.
Get the R4 or R1 - it doesn't matter which - they're both NTSC.
R4 is NTSC??
I bought the Dutch version some time ago. I really enjoyed the movie when I was like 'younger' still enjoy it now :)
What's been cut from the R2??

yea but haven't they got RCE protection. not sure if my multi region dvd player can play 'em
The reason its not out yet is because Warner are trying to convince the BBFC to pass the film uncut so we don't lose the video commentary.

Why is goonies cut, that was a soft as mr bean......what was edited?
Anyone know?
Rob
according to IMDB:
"UK version was cut by 16 seconds to obtain a "PG" rating."
not much help. :(
I think the cuts might be to do with Jake Fratelli escpaing prison by pretending to hang himself.

Not RCE according to the RCE List: http://www.dvdtalk.com/rce.html
Yeah, the 'fake hanging' scene is trimmed in the UK version, and a couple of bits were Chunk says '*****' have also been removed.
It's not RCE, works fine on my Tosh.

Some region 2 discs are NTSC as well! WWE (wwf as was) and the new red hot chilli peppers dvd single for starters.

The R2 mainland version is not BBFC approved and so isn't cut (to the very best of my knowledge). No need to wait if you want it now. They've got it on www.dvdzone2.com
Do a search on Goonies. I think they sell 2 versions of it (identical in content, difference is language of cover text).

Yep, there was a lot of outraged people in R4 who were upset at this from Warner - they have released other NTSC R4 titles as well.

Ordered it.. Thanks.. Missus is gonna be well chuffed.
(of course it's not for me  ;) )
the goonies is the best film ever made. i cant believe they would cut it. i watched that film as a kid and still watch it now. i want it on dvd instead of video so i can watch my fav bits over and over again. did you hear about the octupus scene, they cut it out before it was released in the cinema but in the last scene data mentions the octupus even tho it was cut out:lol:
Yep, and that very scene is on the R1 DVD as an extra...
Oh, and Sex and the City was also a R2 NTSC release...
Is the r4 dual region (ie 2 and 4?)
Octopus scene happily present on R1
goonies r4 is not dual encoded r2 and 4.my mate borrowed my copy to watch on his toshiba 220 region 2 only machine and it wouldnt play.
i got this little gem last year on R1, the Commentary is very good, you see what they look like now, that Ginger head is still nice.
I believe the proper Region 2 Release for the UK will come out this year but there is no set date yet. I dont know why there is such a long delay but I wish they would hurry up.
Also it has been rumoured we should get all the extras that Region 1 viewers got including the commentary and extra scenes etc
Also reguarding this Octopus Scene, I am puzzled why they cut it out, because if you watch the movie normally, one of the kids said at the end that the Octopus was really scary, yet there of course there was no octopus scene, was this line meant to be in the line or did it slip by????

A mistake probably BUT you can read it as an example of Data's hyperbolic nature, always exagerrating etc so it does fit in quite nicely anyway.
any ideas anyone?
