Just checked over at Bullets & Babes and read that the film has been cut twice. :mad:

To obtain this category cuts of 0m 11s were required. The cuts were Compulsory.
One compulsory cut was required to the sight of a car being stolen with the aid of a piece of wire on the grounds that this is an imitable technique that requires removal under the Video Recording Act of 1984.
At the time of classification Medusa Comms. & Marketing Ltd was the holder of the rights or the brand name for this work.

The cast for this work includes: Jackie Chan, Samo Hung, Eric Tsang.
The unreported 2nd Cut is to the scene with the dialog "let's go rape her". Despite offering to redub the Cantonese, English, and Subtitle Tracks and keep the scene intact HKL were forced to remove it. Unusually this has not been reported on the BBFC Site.

What makes it even more annoying is that the car scene is already on a previous HKL disc - it was in a Sammo biography I think. :(
Its an odd decision to cut the 'rape' line considering HK films such as Evil Cult contain consistent references to rape yet it only received a 15 rating.

Its says the w/s Catonese vidoe version (ie DVD) from HKL is cut in total by 17 secs :mad:

So what other versions of this movie are available? And which is best to get?

its 17secs now ?
was 11 secs a few weeks ago :(
the HK Universe disc is an alternative
even though HKL is cut, i think it will the best to go for.
if you have spooky encounters, u got the car scene.
dont see why they should cut the rape joke, as its 'only a joke'. Its quite common in HK films.

Well the best version to get is clearly the HKL release, cuts or no cuts. Its not like the BBFC decision drastically changes the film in any way.
There is a cheap uncut R3 if your desperate though. I'd rather have the anamorphic transfer and Bey Logan commentary regardless of BBFC cuts.
Does this R3 version have an english dub?
nope.
Is this film any good? Is it in the same category as JC's other films like Police Story and Project A?
Or is this with the likes of City Hunter and Armour of God?

If you don't like Hong Kong humour you'll probably not like this and JC is only in half of the movie.

Shaolin Soccer was a one off ... 99% of HK Humour will not travel well ... the locals also hate western humour so it works both ways.
