Question:
Although various sites and on-line retailers have listed R2 "Band of Brothers" for a month or so now, set to retail on November 4th, Warner Brothers have now made the official announcement.
Metal tin, DTS Soundtrack, whole load of extras (same as R1 I believe). This i going to be the best release on DVD so far (for me anyway).
As a R2-only buyer, this really is great news.
See The Region 2 Project for full details.
Theres been cover art on a few sites for a while now, and a full list of features on amazon...
Encoding: Region 1 (US and Canada only)
Format: Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Box set, Dolby, DTS Surround Sound
Rated: NR
Studio: HBO VIDEO
DVD Features:
All 10 episodes on 6 discs
Documentary We Stand Alone Together (80 mins.)
The Making of "Band of Brothers" (30 mins.)
Ron Livingston's "Video Diaries": the making of the film through the eyes of an actor (55 mins.)
Widescreen anamorphic format
Number of discs: 6
excellent news. I was going to go for the R1 because of the great packaging but it's R2 all the way for me now.....

But thats the Region 1, the point is that we didn't know until now whether or not the Region 2 would have the same features, i.e DTS, Metal tin packaging etc.

Hhhhmmm... It seems like the Region 1 and Region 2 are identical then. The only difference might be the packaging. May have to get the region 2 now if it's cheaper and the packaging is OK. The cheapest I could find the region 1 was £50 @ Cd-wow, just had a quick look and play have the region 2 for £46. Decisions, decisions...

Sod all extras in my opinion. Not that I'm too bothered as I just want the show itself, but it's the sort of release where they could have filled an entire disc with supplementary material.

Decisions, decisions... £46.45 including p+p @ Amazon.co.uk, always found them very reliable in sticking to their prices. Still, might get a bit cheaper nearer the time so shall keep my eye out. Fantastic series IMO, and one that I am looking forward to owning. Documentary is probably the one they showed after the final episode, with interviews with surviving members of Easy Company.
Paul.
Looks like I'll be moving my order from CD Wow tonight - if the R2 has the tin and the DTS soundtrack (and is actually cheaper)then I've no reason to get the R1.
Think I'll be going for the R2 as well now.
only ever saw 1 or 2 episodes but out of those it looked excellent so roll on the dvd release.
Forums sponsers www.dvd.co.uk have the R2 available for pre - order at £44.95 ...... cheapest price I have yet seen for this particular version.

In general they seem to be the cheapest supplier for R2 boxsets. Good service too.
heres a question for you all does anyone now weather this series was made using ntsc masters.if so then it was then transfered to pal for the uk transmitions.in affect then really the best picture version shoud be the us one,as it was originally created in ntsc and not pal.
I only have 1 worry about the R2 of BoB, wasnt it cut on BBC2 ? Would that mean the R2 DVD would also ?
But if its not cut and has everything the R1 has ill get the R2, christmas this year is going to cost a bit :p
Yes there were scenes cut so that episodes would fit into the 1 hour time slot.
kpnuts makes a good point about the conversion but i think the source material will be from HDTV and as i recall the picture was great when it was on BBC2.
If region 2 is cut, it has to be region 1 by default! The packaging and features may(...or may not) be identical, but, if you've glanced at the '24' thread, it seems getting a 'cut' version is like selling your soul to the devil!!
...region 1 is about £44 from DVDSoon...delivered! ...so not much in the price.
The amount of stuff the BBC cut takes the **** though. In ep6 one soldier kind of fills another who has off the front line (with injuries himself) about all the other wounds all the soldiers have endured. I would say close to 10/12 mins will have been cut in total.

...and that's acceptable to you??? Personally I'm going to wait a little nearer the time of release for confirmation of these cuts one way or the other...and any other differences there may be, but if indeed there are cuts...DVDSoon will be getting my hard-earned!! :)
Hell no, im gonna hold like you before ordering too.
The specs indicate English Closed Captions. This can't be right...er, right?!!
I might be wrong, but aren't Closed Captions only for the American market?
Anyone?
And i just don't understand why there aren't any English subtitles on this set.
I mean, i'm sure even for the English speaking, there are certain scenes where it's hard to understand what everyone is saying. And think about all the deaf people... :(
What do you all think?
i'm sure i read somewhere that a scene with a switchblade was also cut as the beeb don't like them being shown on tv. a soldier demonstrates his switchblade and how he hopes to cut hitlers throat with it. anyone know if this is correct?

R2 set seems to be missing one of the extra features listed for the R1 set
Field Guide - an enhanced viewing mode that offers an interactive reference feature that details the people, places and events associated with Easy Company’s campaigns through Europe and WWII as a whole
Anybody shed any light on this?
Good point about there possibly being cuts on the region 2 and the NTSC/PAL issue, I hadn't thought of that. Buying DVD's shouldn't be this complicated.
Closed captions are subtitles for the hard of hearing
I know that . Although i never heard of Closed Captions in Europe. English for HoH yes, never Closed Captions.
Are captions the same all over the world?
No, they aren't. The captions in North America are based on the Line 21 system, and the captions in much of Europe are based on Teletext. The terminology isn't even the same! What a North American television company would call "captioning," a British television company would call "subtitling."

......Closed Captions have been available on VHS for years.
http://www.dvd.net.au/goto.cgi?news.cgi?id=2498 is the R4 announcement. Specs are the same as R2.
RRP is an even more reasonable $A99.95 (35 quid), and you'll probably get discounts on top of that...

Yeah thank God, that means there's an outside chance it could be packaged in Amaray's instead of a crappy digipack. Though I won't hold my breath. :|
