Question:
Just thought you lot should know just incase you did'nt that Blade Runner has been discontinued in the UK.
Something about warners losing the rights
Not a big loss.
The current Blade Runner release is not that well encoded and has no extras at all.
Roll on the special edition...
when is the s.e.?
Near the end of the year, official date unknown, I guess December, but definately before the year is out I hope.
Special Edition: AFAIK early next year..Ridley's commentary is recorded..meant to coincide with the movies 20th anniversary (cinema release 1982) but delayed. Love this movie.
Does anyone know whether it'll have the original version?
I dont really like the directors cut and much prefer the harrison Ford voiceover version, but you can never find it anywhere now!
I remember hearing a while back that there were going to be 4 versions of the film on this s.e.
or am i insane?
Yep, you are.
There's apparently going to be the original version, the directors cut, and a new special editon with new speshul effects and whatnot.
Losing the rights? Didn't they pay for the film to get made in the first place?

I think the Blade Runner partnership have bought them back or something they're running the show along with Ridley's film company i think.....

I thought they were ditching the Directors Cut as its not really one, as was rushed out ready for the rerelease, and Ridley didnt really like it, was more done by the studio than him.
Therefore rumours were
Original Theatrical (hopefully European rather than US version as this has extra violence which US cut)
Ridley New Official Directors Cut !
One of the original workprints (cant remember which but they are all discussed in the excellent book Future Noir)
Was intended as a 3 disk, 2 for the different film versions and 1 for extras. Seems has been delayed from Nov to some time next year.
