Question:
I understand the 1995 flick Mortal Kombat was cut by the BBFC by 7 seconds for the cinema version, in order to remove the sight of chainsticks :shocker: I believe. However, about a further 4 seconds were removed for the video version.
Does anyone know what is missing from these 4 seconds? I've tried the usual sites (Melon Farmers, IMDb, etc) but none of them have sufficient details.
Thanks.
I believe, but ain't 100% sure, that the neck breaking scene with Sonia and that guy (forget who he plays) was trimmed
Anyhoo scene goes like this:
She has her legs around his neck while they are fighting, he says "Aww give me a break Sonia" and she says "Ok" then snaps his neck, but I *think* it's cut down in the UK version

I thought this would be one of the scenes, actually. I am also guessing headbutts, ear claps and throat chops might be missing in the Uk version.
Well this neck break is in the UK version. You see Sonja'a face as he says "OK", and then you hear the neck break happen off-screen. Is this different to the US version?
Been so long since I seen the US version (back in the days of laserdisc) that I can't honestly remember, sorry bud
This is a really fun movie, with a not-bad soundtrack to boot. Is an anamorphic version available on any region? The R1 isn't 16:9, the R2 states it is but isn't, and the movie isn't available on R4...

Nicely put! It's not a brilliant film, but it's fun. As far as I know, no 16:9 version exists.
You know any info about the cuts?
No info about the cuts. It's amazing what will pass for the PG-13 rating in the US...
Then again, Die Hard 1 is rated M15 in australia, and R (17) and 18 over here...

Yeah, the Aussies are waaaaaay too slack sometimes. Die Hard is NOT suitable for an advisory 15 rating.
I don't think it's gore thats missing from the UK version of MK, as this wouldn't pass for a PG-13. I think it's more likely to be combat moves that the BBFC have fits over, like headbutts, throat chops, ear claps, limb breaks.
Does anyone know anything about the cuts?!
I think Mortal Combat was cut to avoid getting an 18 rating, yet it got something like a PG-13 rating in the US!
i recommend the spanish double feature dvd featuring MK 1 &2, completely uncut and ANAMORPHIC!english audio is dolby 2.0 only with optional subtitles.about £11.50 delivered from dvdgo.com
7 seconds were removed to avoid an ‘18’ cinema rating (US version is rated PG-13!). An additional 4 seconds were cut for video. Uncut region 2 versions are available outside the UK. R1 disc is uncut.
Thanks everyone, but I do already know how much is cut and what ratings it has in the UK and US. I need info on WHAT is missing please!
Shots of nunchucks have been cut.
I'll update when i find more lists of cuts.

I know that chainsticks were removed as I mentioned this in my first post. I think this accounts for the cinema cuts, but I'm interested in finding out what's missing from the video version, i.e. the other 4 seconds of cuts.
Melon Farmers, IMDb and UK DVD Cuts don't list anything of use :( Any ideas?
