Question:
Can anyone clear this up, I am sure I have seen somewhere that the region 1 version will have a 5.1 soundtrack as opposed to the DD 2.0 soundtrack ont he region 2 version. Surely it cant really be DD 2.0 as this is sooo old and crap sounding for such a new and advanced program.
Anyone clear this up for me. If r2 was 5.1 i would legit down to my local tescos and buy it this weekend on the vat free jobby :)
Wasn't the program broadcast in 2.0 though? It doesn't make it crappy though does it? It just all depends on how they use it really.
the programs not crappy, but i would expect producers nowadays to use at least 5.1 sound for DVDs.
No programs are bradcast in 5.1 cos not many tvs have dolby digital decoders or digital outputs. Thus, program makers keep on with Prologic (which is DD2.0), which can be coded into a standard stereo signal. Newer AV amps can decode pro logic using the new pro logic 2 system, which adapts the prologic signal to 5.1 sound.

It was all just speculation that the R1 version of "24" would have a 5.1 soundtrack, the same rumours said that there would be commentaries and other extras too but when the official announcement came from Fox, the specs for R1 were exactly the same as R2 so they are getting a Dolby 2.0 soundtrack as well.
