Question:

anyone got any sites where dvd covers have been custom made - so i can lend out bttf dvds and godfather ones out in single cases?

Answers:

DVD Cover Art (http://www.dvdcoverart.com/) is the best DVD cover site I've come accross.
Chris.

Answers:

any others? cant get anything off of dvdcoverart to download properly.

Answers:

If your getting 'corrupt' .zip files, try downloading them with a download manager. The site was giving me a bit of trouble yesterday. It seems to get a bit twitchy when busy.

Answers:

yes, unless your using IE5
it wouldnt download any using Mozilla

Answers:

Trying to find a thread to discuss this, just how many people on here replace their DVD cases with custom artwork or get rid of snapper cases to fit their discs into a Amaray.
Great website, and some fantastic artwork for classic films... why oh why don't companies use original artwork for the DVD cover?

Answers:

I've replaced a few of my covers with either custom artwork or because they were snappers.

You do realise you have to buy credits right?
Understandably so when you consider the quality on show.

Does that mean you don't get the 10 free credits anymore when you sign up?

Woah! I didn't, but that was months ago.

Yeah, they stopped that a while back after people started abusing it by signing up using multiple email aliases :nono:

Answers:

You also earn credits by uploading covers to the site.

Hope I don't get shot posting this, but this was the main reason I signed up for credits (which cost next to nothing)
Oh, and the alternative "Road To Perdition" cover... :p

not sure though... charging for stuff thats breaking copyright anyway... should be free IMO
they should use more ads.. to pay for webspace/bandwith...
What next? we pay to post threads on here?

I've gone cover mad at the moment :cuckoo:
Just updated Trek 1-10, Jack Ryan, Lethal Weapon, Snappers.
Now I'm doing Chris Elder's Disney Collection which are very very nice.

Well, the current site's been up for ages and the studios haven't taken it down yet so i assume they don't mind it in its current format. A while back they did make them remove covers for stuff that hasn't been released yet e.g. Star Wars OT.
The prices are very reasonable for what you get IMO - 100 downloads only costs $9.95 which works out at ~6p each. Considering that most covers are 2-5Mb in size i imagine their bandwidth costs are fairly high.

Can you imagine any companies that would want to advertise on it?... No neither can I.
Sadly nothing is free, and you can imagine how much that site costs. The credits per cover are next to nothing anyway. Use it or loose it. It's a community where the people that make and use the covers all chip in to keep it alive, can you not see the fair logic in that?

That's a pretty amazing cover.

Answers:

Yes, very nice cover. I've got some credits at DVDcoverart because I contributed 1 cover but as I don't have a good color printer at my disposition, I've actually never used them.
I got the 1 cover I did printed through DV-Depot but that's not cheap (£2.24, though excellent quality) and only that 1 was annoying me enough to chip out the cost.

So apart from DVDcoverart.com there are no other free sites. All the films i'm looking for seem to have poor choices, and certainly isn't worth a sign up.

I've yet to come across a site that offers the quality that DVD Cover Art offers.
However this (http://shock-wave.neostrada.pl/index.htm) site offers some custom covers. (It's hosted by one of the DVD Covert Art guys)
Mods, there are some covers for non released DVD's on there. If this is breaking T&C's then please remove.

I had the opposite problem. IE would not work & Mozilla did.
I've done a few covers of my own.

Well worth the costs IMO. Most of the covers are of excellent quality and as mentioned the bandwidth must be huge, plus there's the effort the person put into the custom cover in the first place.
And I have to say, with the wealth of information found on these forums, plus all the money I have saved, I would have no hesitation on paying a yearly subscription to use this site :)

Another one who is glad to pay for credits here - dvdcoverart is a fantastic site

http://www.cdcovers.cc/ is another one, a lot of covers for different languages, the quality isn't as high as dvdcoverart, but the quantity is greater

So do you get access to proper high res. images if you pay on DVD Cover art?
Can you pay to have them printed professionally?
I personally use:
www.cdcovers.cc
http://www.cd-covers.com/
The latter is just listing site but has some very useful links.
If the cover is an EIV or similar cover then I definitely print out a new cover but if it's a snapper I don't. I don't mind snappers to much.
That 'Lost in Translation' cover is gorgeous but it looks like fan art. I personally prefer covers to look like the real thing, bar codes (it doesn't need to actually be the bar code of course) and all.
Those Passion of the Christ and Scooby Doo 2 covers are perfect examples of how bad some can look. Although I've had to use ones like that before when I couldn't find any better cover art.

You can download high res artwork off DVD Cover Art once you've bought credits. They also stay in your account history so can download the cover again if deleted/on another PC.
As for the sites you mention, what is the typical resolution of the covers. One I downloaded of DVD Cover Art is 3240 x 2175 pixels.

Answers:

The ones on Cdcovers.cc are pretty poor. Some covers are only 75dpi and most are 150dpi at best.
I also have seen a lot worse than the first Passion of the Christ cover.

Just resurrecting this as the excellent www.dvdcoverart.com has been temporarily closed.
I only found the site last week so very annoying for me. Wanted to download the rest of the custom Hitchcock covers... and convert my snappers.

There is a chance that DVDcoverart won't be available again.
They were told to remove certain covers and then the Film Industry people closed them down.

I thought it was just the Nazi's at Disney that wanted their covers removed.
They better come back, I have unused credits!

I have unused credits too (bought 60 the day before). Not too bothered about that though.
I can download scanned original covers at tons of places, but they shut down the place offering custom covers - unbelievable.

I made this for my own purposes (review copy needed a cover):
Naked Weapon (Custom Cover) (http://www.dfoster.dsl.pipex.com/other/Naked%20Weapon%20(Custom).jpg)
It's fairly basic tbh, and I shouldn't have used some of the text effects on the feature list, but I thought it was okay :p

* 18 certificate appears twice on the sleeve but it's marked on the back as a region 1 disc
* Logo for closed captions which is AFAIK pretty unlikely on a UK disc
* Length of film is totally wrong, as is the aspect ratio
* The font used for the back cover blurb is terrible
* The font used for "A MEL GIBSON FILM" looks like Arial or something

You can get a photo quality printer in PCworld for less than £100
The only place your'd be able to get them printed for you is from dvdcoverart.com which looks like it's closed indefinitely
