Question:
just watched this, top film can't praise it enough but annoyingly the soundtrack options are limited to a badly dubbed english 5.1 or the orginal french but only in 2.0
does anyone know what the retail release will hold. i've already ordered the 3 disc canadian but i'm thinking of all those poor people that can only watch R2.
BTW the running time is 133 mins, not 137 as stated on the case. is this the shorter cut or the directors cut?

i have the french 3 disc which is french only with no subs but dts and housed in the most superb packaging ive ever seen.
got a r3 edition with english subs dts etc but full screen which is a gutter because the dts track is superb very loud indeed with some superb surround effects runs 134 mins pic quality is excellent spoiled by the cropping but still nice to watch it with subs.
my french release is the directors cut i will have to check running times.

I think the 137 mins stated is the Dir's cut, yanky version was much shorter (114 min NTSC)
My French VHS of this has a listed running time of 145 mins and on the box says it is the long, unedited (ie, director's) version. As SECAM runs at the same rate as PAL, this would seem to be longer still. How many versions are there? I thought there were just the two - the theatrical release version and the slightly longer director's cut...

PAL speedup?
That's not the french 3-disc version and it doesn't have any english subs. Look for pictures of the 3-disc set from these links.

man, that is one sweet looking set. who cares if i haven't done french since A-level? i have to own one of these! think i'll go rent the movie this afternoon and if i like the movie order the SE later on.

I think the French 3 disk is OOP, like Amelie they were limited editions when first released. The 2 disk is widely available still.
Best solution would be the 3 disk coming out in Canada on 1/10
This is around £18 from DVDSoon.
Thisl also get English subs for the film & documentaries.
Only think missing / awaiting confirmation is English subs for the 2 commentaries.
The french 3 disc is long out of print and was hard to find i think i used cinestore it was very expensive as well.Fantastic packaging i doubt the canadian discs will come in the same...it is pretty awesome.
I will of course be stickin the canadian discs in the french box...sorted.
The dts sound is perhaps the most awesome directional and loud surround ive ever heard...stunning and thats from the cropped R3,never played the french disc as i was gonna send back as i did not realise at the time it had no english subs and my french ends with Sacha Distell!
My region 3 copy arrived yesterday and I have to say that this is one hell of a film.:)
The pisture is awesome on the R3 and even the 5.1 track is the best I've heard on any dvd so far.:rocker:

cheers for the links and info people. i've been out to get the R2 rental copy this afternoon and i'll be watching it tonight. i'll give the dub a miss and go with the french 2.0 and subtitles.
hopefully i'll like it enough to go and order the 3-disc set from fnac. i thought the price looked okay. then i'll probably do what dunctay is planning to do and get the candian discs as well! :)
