Question:
According to the BBFC website, they have re-classified the six HALLOWEEN movies to be contained in the forthcoming boxset. Here's the details:
HALLOWEEN (18)
Hasn't been reclassified for this set (ie. same version as on Anchor Bay R2 2 Disc DVD out now)
HALLOWEEN 2 (18)
All previous cuts waived, widescreen, trailer.
HALLOWEEN 3 (15)
Widescreen, Re-edited feature and trailer.
HALLOWEEN 4 (18)
Re-certified, but appears to be same version as on Anchor Bay R2 DVD out now.
HALLOWEEN 5 (18)
As Halloween 4
HALLOWEEN H20 (18)
Hasn't been reclassified for this set (ie. same version as on Dimension Films R2 DVD out now)
So, my earlier impressions are:
- HALLOWEEN 2 sounds identical to the Universal R1 disc.
- HALLOWEEN 3 could be the best available version worldwide (!) with featurette, trailer and in widescreen. It's a new print, too, so hopefully anamorphic :)
- HALLOWEEN 1, 4 & 5 will be same as currently available R2 DVDs - hopefully with some added features, though.
- HALLOWEEN H20 will still be non-anamorphic :(
All in all, I think my current R1/R2 DVDs of parts 2-5 (and H20) could be going on eBay before this set's released on October 1 :D
Just to correct you a bit!
H20 has ALWAYS been anamorphic in the UK R2. The R1 was the non-anamorphic version!
what you refer to as "multi-angle" on Halloween II is in fact simply multi-aspect (you got it correct earlier in your post!) and refers to the fact that the tape submitted to the BBFC for classification contained several aspect ratios (ie: the film in widescreen and the trailer in fullscreen)
Thanks for the info anyway.
The R2 H20 is anamorphic? That's me off to Play... :)
yes H20 is anamorphic in the UK :D
I've owned the R1, R4 and R2 of this title.
The R2 is by far the best of the lot with a really clear, clean anamorphic transfer. The extras and design are otherwise identical to the US R1 version.
The R4 (although anamorphic) has a hideous amount of digital artifacting and is a bad presentation.

Can't be as bad as the HALLOWEEN 3 R2 disc! (was that a VHS to DVD transfer or what? I wanted my £3.49 back after watching :))
amazon have H20 for £8.99 at the mo

I've got Halloween H20 on R4, and it's one of the best discs I've got in terms of picture and sound. Perhaps a faulty batch was released??
What the the films themselves like? I've seen the first one and really liked it, is it worth carrying on through the series?
I've only seen the first one and H20. They're not exactly my favorite horror series. I've always felt that the first one is exceptionally overrated, and I don't find it at all scary. H20 is more of a Scream clone (Scream writer Kevin Williamson was involved), which may or may not be your thing. I found it reasonably enjoyable but nothing special.
IMHO the first is a classics, no question. Part 2 is a decent sequel set in a dark hospital mostly, and quite nasty in tone. Part 3 is good fun, but is nothing to do with the Michael Myers version of events - it's about a loony toymaker trying to kill kiddies.
Parts 4 and 5 were awful, but part 6 (H20) was a great return to form. I'ma really big fan of Steve Miner (Wes Craven's asst. editor on Last House on the Left) since he did Friday 13th part 2, Lake Placid, Forever Young (I'm a softie at heart) and H20.
Worth getting the set? I would. :)
i've got halloween h20 on region 4 and the picture is terrible, good source material, but washed out colours and plenty of artefacting.
halloween 1, region 1, anchoy bay is amazing quality,
halloween 2, region 1, goodtimes, non-anamorphic but good picture quality.
havne't got any others yet.
Out of interest, will this box set include all the extras from the current Anchor Bay SE Halloween 1, in particular the extended TV version?
Isn' there a Halloween 6 And is there a R1 set!:notworthy
Halloween 6 is H20.
halloween h20 is actually the 7th film.
4 was the return of michael myers
5 was the revenge of michael myers
6 was the curse of michael myers
www.halloweenmovies.com is a good site for info

Apologies, I stand corrected. :) :notworthy
So the "ultimate collection" has got one film missing?
Yep, I've heard that Miramax (who own the H6 rights) are planning to release an ultimate edition with the theatrical and famed producer's cuts on it. Here's hoping :)
best death is in 6 were he throws the woman on the farm machine :D
So they've brought out a box set out without part 6. It's ruined I tell you!!!!! :(

damn that was one of my favourite deaths in any slasher ... any idea why its cut?
Goblin... The Curse of Michael Myers had the Theatrical version which is availible on R1 and VHS...
But to add to the confusion, for years now there has been a Producers cut of the film and some say it's completely different to it's counterpart... characters that die in the Theatrical cut survive to the end of the movie... dialogue is different and it's totally wierded out.... I myself have been dying to get my hands on a copy....
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STAY AWAY FROM H2O!! :nono:
Also, if anyone finds an extremly good copy of the producer's cut of Halloween 6, plz let me know...

They cut out most of the gore to go for a different approach.
She gets away from Michael at the farm after being stabbed in the prodcuers cut and goes to hospital where she is shot by the man in black when she wakes up. The exploding head when the guy is killed in the basement is also gone.

The same people die just in slighty different ways.
I know but they survive just that little bit longer...
Can I just ask what happens when Halloween Resurrection hits DVD and there's bound to be another movie after that, Mr. Akkad will milk myers for all he's worth and any longer than what's going on at the moment then MYers will be worth as much as that rip off Jason Vorhees.... Grrrrr
I want Freddie Back!!!!!
arent AB also rereleasing Halloween with a commentary ?
Yes they are in R1, next year. Although the AB website doesn't say just who is doing the commentary, it must the old pot-head himself.
---
So many films, so little time...
people are saying they are getting it from play but mvc is only 43.99 plus 1pound pandp:indiff:
just looked on their page and it says 39.99 now do you think that warrents a bargain post

Im quite happy to post my VHS copy of the producers cut out to someone so they can watch it/copy it as long as I get it back.
Haven't watched it in 4 years so I can't remember the quality but Ive watched it so it can't be that bad, just give me the weekend to find it as stuff has all been moved around cos me house flooded.
