Question:
I preordered Braindead R2 from play a while back and I have just noticed it been posted.
But I can’t find the disc specs any where. No other UK sites seem to list it. Can anyone confirm the specs and weather the film is cut?
It wasn’t a fortune and I should have it by some time this week, I just don’t want to get my hopes up for nothing.:(
What nationality was the disc?
I'm happy to confirm that it's never been cut in the UK, but I can't vouch for other countries.
i think its UK.
Bad Taste is getting a release as well right ?
i think these two are bare bones.
Shipped?
Woo Hoo.
[Rushes away to check his own order status].
Yep, def uncut.:smokin:
Is Bad Taste any good ?
ive seen Braindead, not bad for a laugh, but a bit over the top for me.
Braindead doesn't have the brilliant wit of Bad Taste, but is still a highly amusing splatter comedy.

Brilliant wit Jon? :D
I love Bad Taste because it is excellent and disgusting...okay maybe brilliantly witty at times too :D
Still prefer Braindead though...
Love all of Peter Jackson's work, particularly Braindead and Heavenly Creatures, which I think is his best work.
The Spanish disc of Braindead is uncut (i.e. the same version we got here in the UK) but non-anamorphic and apparently not a fantastic print.
The US version (Dead/Alive) loses some 7 minutes, mostly plot, but with the resurgence of interest in all things Jackson-related, it wouldn't surprise me if we see a special edition of this sometime in the near future...
Anchor Bay, anyone? :D

Yes. I'd love them to release it - uncut anamorphic remastered widescreen..
I love this film.
"I kick arse for the Lord!" ;)
rubber duck - where did you order this from and for how much?
Cheers
Carl
he mentioned it was shipped from Play, so i suppose Play :D
On a chat with an Anchor Bay spokesperson on www.horrordvds.com , it was stated Anchor Bay currently have no plans for BRIANDEAD in the near future, so even IF they try to gain the rights to this flick, it would be a very long wait. They are however working on MEET THE FEEBLES tho so maybe contact with Peter Jackson there may start some sparks.

Why has this reminded me irresistibly of one of the all-time great Guardian misprints: "Brian Glover, who has died of a brian tumour..."? :D
I received it today, the box states 4:3 picture and mono sound. The imdb lists the correct aspect ratio as 1.66:1 so it’s not that bad. The cover art however is not a patch on the Region 1.
Ill let you lot know what the picture is like after I watch it tonight.

LMAO. Just spilled my morning glass of milk onto my keyboard reading that...
Well I just finished watching it and it looks like 1.66:1 to me (when my TV’s in 4:3 mode I get a thin black bar at the top and bottom on the screen). It not anamorphic but imo it doesn’t make a lot of difference at this aspect ratio.
The sound is mono as stated on the box, the picture quality is good and the running time confirms it’s the uncut version. :)
might have my ARs mixed up but is it possible to have 1.66:1 anamorphically enhanced?

Yes!
So Rubber Duck do you think it was worth the £8.99 from play.
Was there any extras on the disc.
Rubber duck - Any chance you can post the UPC (located at the bottom of the barcode on the back of the box) number please??
I just wanna check it out on DVD Profiler!
Cheers
Carl
I received mine yesterday - and I thought the picture quality was on par with my vhs!

Yes - you basically fit the image in a 16:9 frame, i.e. with tiny black bars at the sides.
The advantage to widescreen TV owners is that they don't have to zoom and/or fiddle with the image to get it to display properly, but the disadvantage to 4:3 owners is that the final picture is slightly smaller, which rather cancels out the advantage of a relatively tiny increase in detail!
So for me it's swings and roundabouts, and I have a general policy of not penalising non-anamorphic 1.66:1 DVDs in my reviews (though I do make sure I give my reasons!).
You can even have anamorphic 4:3 - a lot of Anchor Bay extras are like this - but I think this is a very bad idea: everyone will lose a fair amount of detail, and 4:3 owners have to put up with a much smaller picture with thick black bars on all sides!
Well, it sounds like I'll be holding on to my Spanish disc for a bit longer then.

ah of course, silly me. I get that with the jimi hendrix DVD and the extras on the R2 Wickerman (originally an AB release in the US ?).
i got a 4:3 TV with a widescreen feature :(
maybe it is time to get a WS TV.
