Question:
Lo,
ok, well at the moment im in the mood for some scary films. Everyone was always going on about how scary Ring was, well i watched it, it really didnt scare me at all...which was disappointing because i want to be scared!
Ive seen cannibal holocaust, and that didnt really scare me, but sure it made me feel a bit dodgy from all those animal scenes.
So can anyone reccomend a good film that will scare me? i would prefere it to be more on the side of supernatural than a slasher flick. I know about Last house of left, ill probably get around to seeing that, anyone else seen it?
Well, thats about it, just looknig for some quality horror flicks, i dont mind what country they are from :) altho i prefere japanese ones if we go forgien :)
The Shining.
i think for a film to scare you, you need to create a certain mood beforehand.
not many movies scare me nowadays, but try watching alone in the dark, the movies will haves its effects after you finish watching it
seen the shining :)
i thought the "mood" would effect ring...cus i watched it on my pc, and every 10 mins i kept chatting on IRC :P
i had a feeling that would spoil it ;)
Im getting Long Time Dead, ill watch that without chatting and the lights off :)
watch japan movie "the Ring", make sure you turn off the light and watch it alone.
watch Streetfighter:The Movie, if that doesn't scare the everliving **** out of you then you are not from this earth!
The Changling with George C Scott .......very creepy classic and a decent disc in R1 and a better one i hope with commentry in R2 Oct.
The Woman In Black.....canadian import of theis cracker filmed for the BBC and shown only twice since i think , a traditional ghost story with a scene that i nearly wet my draws at.
I actually find Gremlins very scary, and quite funny as well.
Those bloody things... :D
Exorcist III
Audition
Dead of Night (1945)
Poltergeist
Mute Witness
Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue
...and if those don't scare you....
you're already dead. ;)
I've recently read that The Vanishing (http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0096163) is supposed to be very high in the scare department, although I've not seen it yet. Just seen that there's a Criterion of it out as well.
Can anyone confirm if this is good/v.scary?

The 1988 original that you have linked above is a superb film. The 1993 remake pales in comparison and cops out on a vital part of the film: the ending - it is not so much scary, as chilling. Highly recommended!

Ring was crap - now Arachnophobia on the other hand
Arachnophobia is great! Am I right in thinking that there isn't a decent dvd release of said film?
As for scary movies, there's a thread here from a few weeks back, Saber.
Yes, Ring was/is overrated highly.
i saw Woman in Black at a theatre in london, that did scare teh p00p out of me, it was done very well, she like floated from the roof and glowed, and those screams...eek!
Woman in back? What's the storyline? Im always looking out for good horror...:norty:
RING
Some films that have caused Narshty to have an accident:
Carnival of Souls (1962)
Maniac
Tenebrae
The Fog

:D
i have seen ring, i said so in my original post :)
just saw "Long Time Dead" wasnt really scary either, i dunno why but in the suprize bits, after a long build up, when there should of been a big sound they sound went quiet, so like something breaks through a wall and instead of there being a big bang! it does all quiet so you dont jump.
bah.... as much as i dont want to, i may have to watch audition at this rate :D
Im in the process of accquiring "Kairo (Pulse)" and "Versus" both japanese films :)

oh yes! The bit when she's sitting on the rocking chair and the spotlight suddenly goes to her
I saw this about 8 years ago with my mum, and she screamed out loud at this bit. So humiliating :oh-hum:
My vote goes to Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Kairo. I'm not exagerating in the slightest when I say my heart missed several beats watching it. It veers somewhat from exceptionally scary in the beginning to exceptionally shocking come the end, but I guess (from what I've read) that it does not work for everyone - very much a Blair Witch complete-hit or complete-miss affair I suppose.
Truly terrifying in my book though...
How about The Others ?
Monsters Inc?
