Question:
Well i had Thirteen Ghosts arrive on DVD the other day I personally thought it was a brilliant film better than the reviews I had read and there are some funny bits in it as well..:)
Have any of you seen it ? or waiting to see it as I would highly recommend it to you as I rate it a 9/10 and if you have seen what are you views on the film?:)
I was quite underwhelmed, I'm afraid. The production design was excellent, and Shannon Elizabeth is always pleasing to the eye, but it wasn't particularly scary or gripping.
Nice death scene where the guy gets cut in half by the glass, though!
I enjoyed it, but then again I enjoyed the House on Haunted Hill remake and Cherry Falls
I was really looking forward to this, but felt completely let down by the whole thing. The house was probably one of the best sets I've seen in a long time, but felt that
The character of the little boy was a bit of a 'The Shining' rip-off having him go all over the place on his little scooter.
The way in which one of the characters was killed, only to come back as a ghost to help the family was taken from House on Haunted Hill too IMHO
I also felt it a little obvious in what was going to happen:
Bloke has dead wife, goes into a house filled with ghosts - hmmm, what could happen here?
AND another thing - there was no explanation why the ghosts looked the way they did - on the DVD is a great little feature that gives a bit of history to why the ghosts are the way they are. If this had been included in the main feature then it might have raised a bit more interest.
Too similar to other movies and didn't add anything new for me - a real dissapointmet. Still, you enjoyed it and that's all that really matters, I'm sure I love loads of films that you would probably think sucked too ;)
I rented it last week and really enjoyed it.
I though the first 10 minutes were terrible though and was going to bin it but I stuck with it and was pleasantly suprised.
It reminded me of "Cube" a lot and the sound was excellent on my surround system. The ending wasn't the best but I'd still say it was worth the price of a rental. :)
A friend of mine chose it for a cinema outing. The ghost design was good, but other than that the film really sucked (especially Matthew Lillard - what a crap actor).
I have to agree one of the best reasons to watch it is the use of surround. Set up the atmosphere well, pity the film didn`t. The film was OK, a bit short, but given that the script was a bit weak, it was probably the right length. The actors were nothing special.
A bit of a nothing on TV on a saturday night film for 90 minutes.
Prob 6/10

I hadn't seen it at the cinema but my brother recommnded it so I bought it blind and have looked back. Excellent film and the house is fantastic, good set design.:smokin:
Enjoyed it. Not the greatest horror film ever but for a bit of escapism, not bad. The set design was brilliant, just a shame the script didn't match it.
It's probably difficult to come up with original deaths in horror these days (all been done before) - the best scares these days come from films that build up the suspense over a long period (eg. The Others)
Would still recommend it though.
Utterly crap, couldn't wait for it to be over. Nice production values, though.
i quite liked it, the house was stunning but it wasn't remotely scary. a film like this really needed to go all out on the gore, it was only a 15. why does nobody make really sick splatter movies anymore full of gratuitous violence and sex? maybe they were only good when i was 14 but i pity the kids of today with all the crap horror movies they have to put up with.
i was quite surprised the ghost with the slashed up breasts was ok at '15'
enjoyed it myself ... the ghosts looked great and Lillard had some good lines!

Sums up my feelings as well. Seen it in the cinema on release and was glad when it was over.
I saw it recently for the first time. Wasn't the best horror film in the world, but was a good, fun watch. And had some good one liners. One of which actually made me laugh out loud.
As already said, the house was good as were the ghosts.
I'd watch it again.
One extra feature that was interesting was a little story about each of the ghosts, which was quite nicely done.
Well I was impressed :)
It was a really good idea, but with a better cast/crew it could have been a whole load better

Dunno, but they were cracking :norty:
Agree with Johnny Vodka. I thought some of the scenes were very graphic for a "15" - particularly the head crush and the afore mentioned breasts.
Perhaps I'm just getting old:sad:
I guess I was the only one here who jumped and dreaded it whenever one of the characters put on the glasses and a ghost would be in front of them - shudder
The acting was poor, the set was beautiful, and the dialogue cheesy, but it was an entertaining way to kill time - plus I had nothing better to do. :D

It looks like you can get away with a lot more violence in a '15' than you could a few years ago. Carrie 2 was a 15 and I'm sure because of the gore at the end it would propably got an 18 a few years back. Same with Urban Legends 2 and Jason X. It seems strange that the realatively bloodless Halloween still has an 18 when this got a 15.
