Question:
Kiss of the Dragon R2
Studio Fox
Cert 18
Year 2001
Plot:
Jet Li - Plays a Chinese cop sent to Paris to help the Paris Police with a Chinese Drug Dealer. While helping with a drug sting he is framed for murder by a bent Police officer.Jet is now on the run to prove his innocence. While he is at his uncles he meets a hooker named Jessica played by Bridget Fonder.Jet Li agrees to help Jessica get he daughter back. What follows is no stop kung fu action an outrages stunts.
Review:
This is jet li's fourth American film, and it's his best so far.Since there is no wire work in the film jet gets to show off his incredible speed and Martial Arts skills, in one scene he even takes on a Dojo full of Karate training police officers. The plot for this film is good and Jet li and Bridget Fonda both put in good performances. The fight scenes are very well choreographed and are fresh. One of the most memorable scenes is where Jet Li kicks a snooker ball out of the pocket and then leaps up into the air to kick the ball into a bad guys for head.I totally enjoyed the films and would totally recommend it to Jet li fans and action movie fans.
Picture:
The picture is very good all through the film and is presented in anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 widescreen. There are a phew night time scenes where there is a little grain in he picture but this is a small fault. The layer change is well places and is very short un like some other dvds.
Audio:
Kiss of the Dragon is presented in DD 5.1the sound is a little disappointing the rear surround channels are hardly used only,When they are used it is only short, the scene in the tunnel is probably has best sound in the film with bullets hitting there target behind you.The sound quality is very good though.
Extras:
Studio Commentary by Chris Nahon, Jet Li and Bridget Fonda
Corey Yuen Action Academy Featurette
The Jet Li Technique/Fight Philosophy
Police Gymnasium Fight: Martial Arts Demo
Storyboard Sequence
Multi-Angle Sequence – "The Laundry Chute"
On-the-set Action
Action Gallery
Making of Featurette
Trailer
Six TV spots
There are quite a lot of extras to work through the commentary is interesting to listen to although the films director is a little quite and lets Jet and Bridget do all the talking. The interview with Jet is interesting and the Martial Arts demo is good for picking up some kung fu moves. The making of Feuturette is more of a promotional programme since the action is always flicking to actor interviews.
Overall:
A good film presented on a solid disc. The only let down is the sound. So did I enjoy it?
you bet a did I could easily watch this film again this week.Fox a presented a good package. Its also good to see Jet showing us what he can "Really" do.

I saw it and the Cinema and didn't think it made a great deal of sense, though the martial arts were pretty good.
Theres a bit I remember where Bridget Fonda is trying to explain how she got mixed up with the badguy which we just makes no sense
something like "Well, you know how it goes.....you meet a frenchmen and thats it"
And thats apparently her explanation for becoming a prossie.

The story-line is pretty standard, a bit like a James Bond film set in Paris. I enjoyed it though, great fight scenes and Tchéky Karyo is reliable enough for a film of this nature.
Nice to a film set in Paris. Don't see the Eiffel Tower too often in films these days.
Those two blonde karate guys were they those two brothers from BROS, who sang that hit song ...When will i be famous?:smokin:
No it wasnt the Goss brothers but Luke Goss did go obn to star in Blade 2 as 1 of the main baddies
As with the rest of the Jet Li's Hollywood movies - nowhere near as good as his HK ones. Why are his considerable talents being so wasted?
His talents are wasted because: Hollywood can't make good Martial Arts films, especially Joel Silver (I will never forgive him for Romeo Must Die and trust me Cradle 2 The Grave will be rubbish also!).
BTW I reckon Kiss Of The Dragon is Jet Li's best Western film to date.
Great movie, and just like wazzabi said, one of Jet Li's best Western films to date. Great action, great martial arts, story was pretty too. Need to see this
I like Romeo Must Die too BTW ....
