Question:
I don't think these are popular and not big enough discount to merit entry for bargain forum but Play
http://www.playserver2.com/play247.asp?page=search&adudisc=y
have got Not One Less, The Road Home (Zhang Yimou) and the Emperor and the Assassin (Chen Kaige) all at £9.99, all Region 2. A tidy reduction in price for films like this.

Foreign Language Films: A Tidy Link
don't know how it ended up here.
With regard to Emperor and Assassin am about to log off and do some DVD viewing and catch up on this one as it arrived today (ordered Sunday). Surely you shouldn't be messing with VCD on the *** forums!
gjam
Well I can fully reconmend 'The Road Home'.
Its one of my all time favourite dvds despite not having a single extra feature.

i do make blind purchases sometimes, but ive heard nothing about this film.
you want a chinese epic with no extras then go buy Farewell My Concubine from dddhouse, currently in their weekly cheap selection for £3 approx. Get the Untold Story II to balance it off with some over the top cannibalistic cookery for another £3

Seconded.
Fantastic film
It was £10 at Play...
The EMPEROR & THE ASSASSIN is excellent.
Now if only someone would release RED FIRECRACKER, GREEN FIRECRACKER & RAISE THE RED LANTERN for R2 :)
The EMPEROR & THE ASSASSIN - I have a mini review somewhere of the HK R3 ...
Chinastar/meiAh DVD-10, Non anamorphic 1.85:1 DD5.1 Eng subs.
Picture quality is very good and although it is a single layered disc no compression artefact's were evident. The DD5.1 however was poor for a grand epic like this and I heard numerous sound drop outs at the start of each side of the movie. However the movie is 160 mins long and the DVD is under 5 squids.
Epic about a chinese emperor who united the 6 kingdoms. Pre-dates the building of the great wall so the film contains scenes of buildings and costumes unfamiliar to the west. The attention to detail and the production values are very high for a historical chinese mainland movie and I was very impressed. Cinematography is alway gorgeous and interesting to look at. The plot is deep and complex and the actors put in good performances.
A satisfying ending and not boring in the slightest.
"The EMPEROR & THE ASSASSIN is excellent..."
...well... ahh... <a href="http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/emperorandtheassassin.html">perhaps not quite so excellent</a>...
...that said, except for a few problems with the source material, the R1 DVD
is pretty damn good (anamorphic 1.85:1 / very good DD 2.0 Surround sound / Director's commentary)...
...and, yes! it is a looong movie!...
. . . :o . . .
