Blue Sunshine due for release
Question:

Title alone should be familiar to anyone who grew up poring over Halls of Horror/House of Hammer magazine and always wondered why those cool movies never came to their local Odeon.

This is good news - I've been waiting to see this rare gem ever since it used to appear regularly at the SCALA in the late 70s, early 80s.
I would also love to see Jeff Lieberman's JUST BEFORE DAWN on DVD - anybody remember this?

Ive been waiting for Blue Sunshine for a while,so this is good news indeed-although I could have sworn that Image announced this a while ago!
Just Before Dawn is one of the best of all the eighties slasher movies, and was one of those rare films that had most of its suspense scenes set in daylight hours. That serated edged machete in the groin scene still brings tears to my eyes!!

Synapse are also going to be handling this one - from the keyboard of Don May, Jr over at MHVF (www.mhvf.net[/url):
"Can't say anything JUUUUUUST yet... Let's just say we are compiling "materials". We've found the negative supposedly, but I'll have to wait and see it before we announce anything. So, right now... no, technically, we aren't doing it at this time."
Which translates as they're only in the pre-production stage but they do have the rights.
Lieberman's Squirm (uncut, with director commentary) is also coming out in MGM's August slate. Looks like this could be the year of Lieberman on DVD!

A fascinating and daring film - very similar to early Cronenberg in feel and tone. "Squirm" is even better - one of the great trash monster movies in fact. The peerless "Just Before Dawn" manages to take the teenagers-in-peril cliches and renew them with immense skill and without unnecessary gore or sex.
A few years ago, Lieberman didn't seem to think a decent print of "Blue Sunshine" was available, so this is great news.
