La Règle du jeu
Question:

After leafing through the new Sight and Sound's latest 10 best films ever made I thought I ought to make the effort to see some of them. Most have been ticked off, but I've never seen Renoir's 'La Règle du jeu'. Has anyone seen the French (or any other if available) DVD of this and can they comment on the quality?
Thanks
Simon

Answers:

Yes, and it's fabulous (transfer, extras, subtitles). Criterion are planning their own version, but I can't see much point in waiting - Editions Montparnasse have done it full justice.

Answers:

Thanks Michael, it's been ordered....

I was also looking for a copy of this film - the only one I hadn't seen either. I had a feeling Criterion might have an edition in the works - do you know when Michael?
And where's this Editions Montparnasse from? I'm guessing France, but I only found two editions on amazon.fr, and one seemed to be out of stock and the other forthcoming. If I understood right, which I probably didn't!

The Montparnasse version is now 'OOP' and there's a Buena Vista (R2 Criterion?) version slated for release on 13/11/02 (as you've probably guessed).
Criterion version should've been released earlier this year but..er..wasn't - and if "Wild Strawberries" was anything to go by, you could have a long wait.

I got the Editions Montparnasse from Cinestore (http://www.cinestore.com/html/fiche_produits.php?groupe=1&page=1&id=240) last week.
They still have stock.

I've just ordered the OOP one along with La Haine and the Ozon boxset. Here's hoping I actually get it....

Is the Cinestore edition now out of stock - I think the text says they out and don't think they'll get more for 2 to 3 weeks (which I guess means never).
I just ordered a copy from alapage.com - I think! Well, I got an order reciept from them, but not sure if the item is actually in stock with them..... I have a feeling it isn't....
Knew I should have ordered last night when Cinestore still were saying they had copies!
