Question:
Having just reviewed the Capra-esque classic Warren Beatty vehicle Heaven Can Wait (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.cgi?page=Review&id=998&story=3492) for DVD Times, [/shameless plug] I'm struggling to think of more afterlife films.
My list
--------
Almost An Angel
It's A Wonderful Life
anyone help? :)
Down to Earth (pretty bad)
Dogma (a bit)
hmmm
A Matter of Life and Death
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey
oh, and
Rentaghost. ;)

Heh, whoops! :p
And that horrible Robin Williams film...
ermm...
What Dreams May Come
AaaAAaaAAaAaARGH!
That was painful to watch :oh-hum:
Beetlejuice
Always
House on Haunted Hill (heh heh)
The classic A Matter of Life and Death (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0038733) springs to mind.
I guess Ghost would fall into the category too.
Possibly The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0039420)
And as you already know, Here Comes Mr. Jordan.
I guess you could say Wings Of Desire and it's dire US remake City Of Angels deal with the afterlife.
Truly Madly Deeply
Always
The Canterville Ghost?
Monty Python's - The Meaning of Life
Would the greatest film ever made, Its a Wonderful Life, count??
Hideaway (one of my favourites)
Flatliners (havent seen in a while but I think it was)
Ghost
Fallen
not sure if there what your after though
Fearless
Jacob's Ladder
Defending Your Life
Heart and Souls
Clarence
Heart Condition
Switch
The Devil in Miss Jones :norty:
The Bill Cosby classic Ghost Dad. :)
Both Heaven Can Wait and Down To Earth were poor remakes.
May I suggest the superior original Here Comes Mr Jordan which I remember watching a couple of times on BBC2 on a Saturday afternoon in days gone past :)

and:
All That Jazz
Meet Joe Black
Made in Heaven
A Life Less Ordinary (if we're counting angels)
Dead Again
Fluke (this is as low as it gets  )
and films in which the after life concept is surprising:
6th Sense
The Others
- Powell & Pressburger's 1946 Technicolor A Matter Of Life And Death has already - and rightly! - been mentioned several times
- Ernst Lubitsch's 1943 Technicolor fantasy Heaven Can Wait starring
Don Ameche, Gene Tierney ... and Laird Cregar as a very suave Devil
- After Life (Japanese and, IMNSHO, exceedingly tedious)
- Basil Dearden's 1944 The Halfway House starring Françoise Rosay, Mervyn Johns, Glynis Johns
...among, probably, dozens of others...
. . . :o . . .
Getting slightly tenuous but All of Me deals with an after-death experience.
Evil Dead
Nightmare on Elm Street
Dawn of The Dead
etc etc.:)
Ingmar Bergman's "The Seventh Seal" is about seeking answers about life, death, and the existance of God as he plays chess against the Grim Reaper during the Black Plague
Casper?

Made in Heaven
Exorcist III
Field of Dreams
and in a very small way...
Somewhere in Time
Spirited away - at least, I think it's the afterlife?
How about:
Sixth Sense
Edit: Ignore me, just went back and read stav's spoiler. :D
Hows about Stir of Echoes.
The Crow?
ooh, and what about the masterpiece that was - Spawn :)
(although the animated version is actually pretty good)
The Frighteners
Poltergiest and its sequals.
There was a film With Alan Arkin and William Shatner, about an American Plane, a Liberator B-17 I think, that crashed in the desert.
I can remember lots more about it, apart from the damn name.
Anyone got any ideas
Think it must be one or the other but not both liggur since there's no cross-reference on imdb :dork:
...ahh... David Hemmings' 1981 The Survivor starring Robert Powell and Jenny Agutter, would fit into the 'afterlife' category, sort of...
...so would Archie Mayo's 1946 'noir' fantasy Angel On My Shoulder starring Paul Muni, Anne Baxter, and Old Nick himself as interpreted with great relish by Claude Rains... (...a R1 DVD of the movie is available on the VCI label...)

from the imdb
Sole Survivor (1970) (TV)
A B-25 bomber is discovered in the middle of the Libian desert and an Air Force investigation team is called in to examine it. The team quickly discovers that it has not been touched since crashing a quarter century earlier. They also discover the plane's navigator survived and is now an Air Force general. The problem? He said the plane went down in the mediterrainian after the captain ordered the crew to bail out. This story has an interesting supernatural twist.
Good film, only seen it twice on TV
Hurrah ! Well done
Our Town - a classic in every way.
...Liggur: 'your' "Sole Survivor" is not to be confused with this one, which stars Billy Zane... nor with this "Lone Survivor":
(...capsule cribbed fromRobert Firsching's AWCM - The Amazing World of Cult Movies site):
"SOLE SURVIVOR (Thom Eberhardt; 1982)
In this low-budget horror film from director Thom Eberhardt, a beautiful advertising executive Denise Watson (Anita Skinner) is the sole survivor of an airplane crash in a remote wilderness area. As her haunting journey continues, Denise is attacked by cannibalistic zombies, and even her friends at home are affected. Eberhardt's film echoes the Australian thriller The Survivor in its set-up, but its tone is closer to Herk Harvey's classic Carnival of Souls without being nearly as interesting. Cult favorite Brinke Stevens appears briefly in a party scene. Eberhardt followed this uninvolving effort with the intriguing Night of the Comet before making the leap to mainstream films."...
. . . ;) . . .
From the Dead of Night (quite a spooky as I recall)
Earth Angel
And at a push ... House and Wes Craven's Deadly Friend
Waking the dead, with Billy Crudup and Jenniffer Connelly.
Sofia
Ghostbusters 1 & 2 ;)
