Question:
I am planning a George Romero feature to tie up all our reviews and some new reviews which will fill the gaps in his filmography...
Problem is that thre is a big gap early in his career that I can't fill, the films are as follows...
There's always Vanilla
Season of the Witch
The Crazies
As far as I know none of these are on DVD...
Basically does anyone know of any DVD release AT ALL of the above three films?... I don't care if it is Italian, Spanish or Brazilian :) (well as long as it has English Subs :))
If not does anyone know if VHS copies exist and where I could get hold of one?
Never having seen the films I would like to write first hand about them rather than researching popular opinon and extrapolating from that.
Cheers in advance people...
All those movies have been on Film 4 in the last year, so VHS copies may exist.
I think that Redemption Video put all these out years ago on VHS so you should be able to find them.
At the Memorabilia fair at the NEC last week, The Videodrome (see add in back of Empire) had a stack of copies for sale.
These 2 are coming up as deleted at Blackstar on VHS, but at least there are some details there.

aha... right I'll try those suppliers for those two...
I have a feeling There's always vanilla is going to be more difficult to track down...
Time to dust off the VCR (yech) which is currently under the bed in the spare room....
thanks for the info and if anyone has a definite source for There's always Vanilla or a cheap source for the other two then please let me know :)
"Time to dust off the VCR (yech) which is currently under the bed in the spare room...."
...I always wonder when people say that... I have a lot of PAL & NTSC VHS tapes of movies that are not - and may never be - available on DVD, so my VCR is still very much alive and kicking ... for such Cecil B. De Mille Technicolor epics as The Story Of Dr. Wassell, Unconquered, Samson And Delilah, The Greatest Show On Earth ... and Kon Ichikawa's An Actor's Revenge ... and Alexander Korda's Rembrandt ... and Julien Duvivier's
Un Carnet de Bal and Anna Karenina ... and Edgar Reitz's 924-minute epic Heimat ... not forgetting Walt Disney's Song Of The South...
...wouldn't throw those out anymore than I would get rid of my collection of LDs and, yes, LPs...
. . . :o . . .
Well I am a lucky boy as a large proportion of my (now discarded)VHS collection has already been released on DVD.
I don't miss a single film that hasn't been released but I will get them when they appear...
To be honest I only have so much time to watch films and given the amount of DVD's I get I have no problem filling that time...
My only use of VHS recently has been to watch Miracle Mile (Because I managed to locate a copy and I wanted a reminder :)) and now these two films...
It helps that my tastes are for the most part *fairly* mainstream... although one man's mainstream is another man's obscurity...
