Question:
How do!
I know this has been mentioned before, but each thread seems to end in a battle with no one actually saying which one is best.
So which one should i get.
I want DTS so that has to be put on?
So which one R1, R2/R4 or just plain R2.
Lets stay calm!
CHRIS!
R4 now.
then R1 later.

The simple answer is no one knows for certain which one will be best as the R1 & R2 aren'te being released until December.
The R4 is supposedly excellent so my pre-order is staying with CD-Wow and I'll upgrade to R1 or R2 if one of them is significantly better
What exactly is gonna be the difference between the the R4 and the R1???
CHRIS!
Yeah, thats right. Get the R4 now, then get the R1 after.
All DTS, R1 and R2 may have a Michael J Fox commentary.
R4 may ship within the next few days and CD Wow have 6 discs for £18.
R1 is December and has crap (IOM) packaging.
R2 may be December or 30th September.
Anyone who buys R4 and sells on later will probably lose very little money.

I thought the R4 was out this month?

OOPS very bad typo I meant R1 & R2. the R4 is imminent
yeah, I'm getting the R4 now. Based on how good it is, I'll make a Judgement on the R1 later.
Moving to the Region Comparison forum.
R1 has also got Exclusive extras not on the R2 and 4!
Yeah thats right.
And for paying loads more money for it, and waiting an extra four months you get.........
Extra DVD-Rom content!
Maybe a Michael J Fox Commentary
Please everyone, stand aside while I cancel my CD-Wow order!

That's not confirmed. I expect it will have more than the R4 but the delay on the R2 could be so they incorporate those added extras.
I just want the films. In OAR. And DD. Couldn't really give a rats ass about extra extras.
£18 this month will do me very nicely thank you very much:)
if u like extras, get R1. if not, get R4.
ok so for normal r4 dts playback, u say r4?
so where to get r4 from then:nuts:
Well, my order has been shipped from
www.cd-wow.com
great company, you can't go for wrong IMHO.
Haven't sat thru' any commentaries as yet from any of my collection- I enjoy watching featurettes & trailers etc. but never get time to sit and watch the movie again and hear what people have got to say- maybe only rarely have I heard a bit from Swimming with Sharks or Usual Suspects. If you can live without Fox talking about the movie then get the R4- ordered mine from www.cd-wow.co.uk -bargain for £17.99!
I orderd mine from Ezydvd, Because they had a free BTTF clock offer which I didn't see at cd-wow, But in all honesty it isn't really free seeing as the boxset itself is a bit more expensive, But what can I say im a sucker for so-called free gifts.
I'm not going to replace my R4, when the R1 comes out, I'm not really interested in a few more extra features, Just want the films presented well.
One more thing, They better send me my free bloody clock, I aint going to be happy if they dont.

Sounds about right to me :)
Thats what decided me in the end, there are a load of films that I haven't even looked at the extras yet, so I got mine from Devoted, just waiting for the snail to get it here.
:norty:
Just to say, mine arrived in this mornings post from Ezydvd.
Got mine this morning from cdwow!! :norty:
bargain at £17, thanks to these forums in fact. :smokin:
Has anyone got the link to the site that shows the packaging comparisons??
To be honest, the packaging on both leaves a alot to be desired.
Where can i see it??
A comparison can be found at here (http://www.bytesandbobs.com/dvdcompare/)
I have also heard that the R4 version is identical to the R2 version, apart from the R4 version is dual encoded, so it will play on all R2 players anyway!
So you can get it now for 17.50 from CD Wow, or wait till christmas and get it for 30 quid!!!!!!
The release date for the R2 has been pushed back to December to include the extras of the R1 - so there will probably be a R1 and a R2 edition with all the extras and the R4 editon with a few of the extras.
After waiting for so long I'll wait another few months to get a complete edition instead of getting an inferior version now.
Just for fun I might buy the R4 from eBay for a pound or two in December (when all the people who buy it now will be trying to get rid of it).
not true, the R1 will have more extras in. The R2 has been coming out in December for sometime now, and will be identical to R4
The release date for the R2 was moved from September to December to make it possible to include the R1 extras - that was reported on several DVD websites - for example on http://www2.r2-dvd.org .
Sounds as though the 'extra' extras are shaping up to be a bit disappointing. The MJF commentary is rumoured to be a few soundbites only.
Five full commentaries, the PiP MJF commentary (even if it's short) several new deleted scenes for all three movies, commentaries for the deleted scenes, additional TV spots and other promotional material ...
No - doesn't sound disappointing to me. :D
..no DTS
Right - forgot about that.
Add 'No useless DTS track eating up valuable space on the DVD.' to my list. :p
SO R2 has no DTS???? Wow.
They are still 17.49 from CD Wow................ for R4
not sure about R2 but R4 HAS DTS, but not R1.
and CDwow just converted me to buying R4: after all, a few by the look of it crap commentaries&trailers that I'll never have time to watch anyway are not worth £10 extra.
It's the film that counts the most
Whilst your all debating the 'extras'. I've watched the first film on disc one, and the special features, and like spielberg says, for me some of the magic has gone.
BTFF was one of my favourite films since I was 10 and now I know too much about it, if you catch my drift. Yeah, the deleted scenes were fun. But I'm not going to ruin the magic and listen to the commentary, the doco has spoiled the 'magic' of this movie for me.
I guess some films should remain mysterious ( or maybe all ). :oh-hum:
I can no longer pretend to be a kid again and watch this film without thinking about alternate scenes, amusing anecdotes etc.
The Trailer for BTTF kicked ass though :smokin: Never seen it before, but it was specially filmed and is not from the movie.
I received this info from www.dv-depot.com regarding the forthcoming R1:
Some *new* NEWS on the upcoming release Back To The Future Trilogy:
• The previously-announced DTS audio tracks have been dropped to make room for 30 more minutes of bonus material per disc. The
international release, now on sale in Australia, has DTS audio.
• The U.S. discs will include exclusive scene-specific commentary from producers Neil Canton and Bob Gale over all three movies.
• The domestic DVDs will not include screen tests (mainly because actor Crispin Glover would not sign off on his makeup test). The screen
tests are present on the Australian release.
• Additional behind-the-scenes footage has been found from BBTF II and III that will be edited down and added into the US box set.
• Two missing deleted scenes were found recently, as well as the full version of "Doc's Suitcase" (seen shortened in the Kirk Cameron
"Secrets of the Back to the Future Trilogy" show) and an extension in BTTF III where Doc offers Marty the gun at the drive-in parking lot.
The US set will now contain about 11 minutes of deleted and extended scenes with exclusive optional commentary from producer Bob Gale.
• No Eric Stoltz footage is to be found on any release of the box set... the actor refuses to give permission for the footage to be
released.
• The first draft script of BTTF2 will be available via Total Axess DVD-ROM for the domestic release.
• Producer Bob Gale is currently trying to convince Universal to include some of the extra bonus materials that won't fit on the three
disc set onto a possible mail-order bonus fourth disc.
Got mine from cd-wow today, only took 2 days
