Question:
I finally sat down to watch my copy of Simpsons S2 (R1) tonight and I'm really surprised at how poor the video quality is. I've seen complaints about the Bart vs. Thanksgiving episode in particular but I thought that every single episode on Disc 1, Disc 2 and the few on Disc 3 I watched was really bad.
As soon as the scene moves or any dark colours come on the pixelisation is terrible. TBH it can't be much worst on VHS. Considering that they are releasing only one season a year you'd have thought they could make a good job.
Are all other regions effected by this?
Not had a look at my set yet, but I'm sure the picture quality won't bother me too much as I'll be laughing my ass off at the show ;)
It's not really any worse than Season One. Looks pretty awful on a computer screen, but watchable on a moderate-sized TV. Most material originating from television that I've seen on DVD looks similar.
the last one on disc 4 doesnt play for me on my PS2. the one where bart give burns some blood
anybody esle
Old TV shows always look grotty on a monitor, which only display progressive scan. NTSC conversions are field based, as is anything made on video and will have bad motion blur on a monitor.

If its anything like S1, then I think you are being harsh on the quality - its broadcast quality and far better than VHS IMO
on a 60 inch big screen tv, the second season looked fine and much better than season 1. i dont think they could have done better.
It looked pretty good to me on a 43" telly - I wasn't expecting it to be pristine, but I had no serious complaints. It's certainly vastly superior to my VHS tapes, and, as RichB says, there's too much else to enjoy to worry that it's not up to Pixar standards!
Michael Brooke watches The Simpsons
:p ;)
Michael Brooke once again confirms his status as the rennaissance man of the DVD Forums :D
Ok, well I started watching this last night on my 47" HDTV and the quality seemed fine, even though I was playing from my laptop via S-video (DVD Player in for repair :( ).
I have to say it is broadcast if not better (certainly compared to the broadcasts over here!)

Works on my PS2.
I've started watching my season 2 (r1) and it looks fine to me. Wasn't expecting a really clean sharp LOTR type picture. You can't expect that from an old tv show!
i cant really comment on it at the momment, cant find it cheap enough :oh-hum:
i did think season 1 was pretty good (pickedup for 12 pounds in a local exchanged shop ),just awaiting for them to get season 2 in
Tafsir ;)
I think the first couple of Seasons will have colour problems cos of there age and remember Animation technology has improved with leaps and bounds since Season 1 And 2 were originally made!:smokin:
i've watched most of the disc's now on my 7 and half foot screen and the picture looks great.
and as richb said the show is bloodly funny.
