ABBA - Definitive Collection - Pixillation Problems?
Question:

Has anyone experienced picture problems with this DVD? After watching it last night, it seems that there is some minor pixillation present during the 'Waterloo' and 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' tracks. I reversed/rewound to find that the problem reoccurred.
Is my player (a chipped Toshiba SD-2109) at fault (although I have never encountered this problem yet), or could it be the disc itself? Has anyone else found difficulties with this disc (other than the sound!)?
Advice? Please!

Why not just invest in the Goeff Love orchestra's versions of Swedish power-pop combo ABBA songs? Personally, I think that their interpretations are superior in capturing the essence of these fine numbers.

edrch - Yes, there are problems with the Abba disk but I'm not sure if this is restricted to people with particular players (we have the Pioneer 535).
"Waterloo" pixellates about 1min 45 secs in, but this lessens after several replays. You are then just left with a 1-2 sec audio drop-out. This happens on a number of tracks through-out the disk.
We've had two copies from MVC and one from Virgin so far, and all have had the same problem (not just a bad batch). We investigated further (Abba sites) and found that it is not restricted to the UK R2 pressing. Reports are out from Netherlands, Denmark and USA of audio drop-outs.
Not good news :(
Will post if I have any further news.
Steve

Yes --- I've just bought it and there are a load of problems on this disk. If fact so much so that I decided to go through the whole disk. I found over TWENTY imaging problems on the first showing
My DVD is the Wharfedale 750s
The problems include stalled / frozen frames, bags of pixilation, ghosting, shadowing and rolling horizontal bands. This is without some of the less than perfect transfers where the blacks are badly blocky. This is all after making large allowances for the age of the originals.
Considering Universal are trumpeting this as a digitally re-mastered set of pop videos (both sound and vision) it not good at all.
The problems are so bad with my disk that I’m sending it back.
There are more posts about this at www.abbasite.com in the forum section.

Further to my above submission.
If you are having problems with this DVD try posting a message at http://www.universalstudios.com/homepage/html/contact_us/
and express your displeasure. This page has a section for Home Video and DVD.
The only way to get things done with such large organisations is to bombard them with messages so post away.

With my Pioneer player I get freezes/audio mutes on 5 tracks. There are hum bars on all the videos sourced from videotape (rather than remastered from film).
The problems are so widespread with this disc,Universal should remake it and offer everyone a free replacement

This disc is now out in Region 4...does anyone know if these many problems and bugs have been fixed for the R4 release?

Yeah, I read that and found it remarkably vague and unhelpful (it doesn't even mention the R2 problems). Then I came here. :)
Anyone got any more news on this?
