DTS Tracks being included- is there a Pattern here?
Question:

I was recently thinking about the latest blockbusters not getting DTS tracks on their releases. I then went to look at my DVD collection on my spreadsheet for which I have my DTS ones listed in Red.
90% of the DTS movies are actually Dreamworks/Universal.
Newline Cinema have recently been including DTS tracks and Fox do when they can.
But look at Columbia/Tristar, BV or Paramount. Nope...look like their anti DTS to me :(

Sum of All Fears - DD only
Men in Black II - Dont count on it
Signs - Dont count on it
Road to Perdition - DTS Likely

Depends what Columbia want to do with MiB II and same for xXx - will they be standard, Superbit or full SEs?
I reckon Signs will be a Vista Series release and will also release it in a boxset with Sixth Sense and Unbreakable as well.
I doubt Fox will do DTS for Road to Perdition TBH

Recent Columbia DTS, The Fast and The Furious comes into mind. But yeah, looks like they could be promoting some people to Superbit, gladly, but I hate buying from websites, wish it were in retail stores. Then there is Superbit Deluxe 2 disc set, hmmmm.
I have yet to get Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and with Signs soon, the boxset theory I may hold on for.

Fast and the Furious is Universal i think. I'm mainly talking about R1 as the right in the UK for different companies are completely different sometimes.

I only thought Road to Perdition will be DTS as American Beauty was. Road to Perdition is a joint production between Dreamworks and Fox. Looking at the company credits on imdb, it seems Dreamworks has the rights in the US.

buena vista are getting there with their vista series and you seem to be forgetting columbia's superbit line. Paramount releases only seem to contain dts tracks in spain for some reason.

Answers:

What annoy's me about Superbit, is that they only seem to be re-releasing old titles. I know Panic Room is suppose to be released in Superbit Deluxe from the start, so hopefully they will do similar things in the future!

What do you think the chances are of Blade Runner being furnished with a DTS track on its Special Edition outing early next year? A few Ridely DVDs have the DTS..Hannibal, Gladiator and Legend spring to mind..

With Warner involved, I doubt it but isn't the True Romance: SE out soon a DTS release from Warner?

Universal have a stake in DTS. Also, Universal distribute Dreamworks DVD product (although given Speilberg's link to DTS, that's probably not too important).
Minority Report - DTS Likely
Definitely - Dreamworks/Fox + Spielberg = DTS :)
Bourne Identity - DTS Likely
Yep - Universal, I expect it to be similar in spec to 'Spy Game'
Sum of All Fears - DD only
Just announced by Paramount today, as expected it's DD only.
Men in Black II - Dont count on it
Why not? Amblin pics always get them with Columbia (MIB, Mask Of Zorro etc.)
Signs - Dont count on it
I fully expect a Vista Series with DTS.
Road to Perdition - DTS Likely
Definitely in the US if Dreamworks have home video rights.
XXX - Don't count on it
Unless there's a Superbit release ;)
Recent Columbia DTS, The Fast and The Furious comes into mind
Fast & The Furious was a Universal release, although distributed by Columbia on home video outside of the US.
Paramount releases only seem to contain dts tracks in spain for some reason.
Which ones?
I know Panic Room is suppose to be released in Superbit Deluxe from the start
'Panic Room' will be a plain Superbit release. The extras will be on a later SE (Superbit Deluxe still doesn't allow for commentaries, and Fincher loves commentaries).
What do you think the chances are of Blade Runner being furnished with a DTS track on its Special Edition outing early next year?
It's a Warner Bros release, and given that they don't see the point in DTS I'd rate the chances as slim. Spielberg owns part of DTS, and he couldn't get them to put a DTS track on 'Empire Of The Sun'!
I doubt it but isn't the True Romance: SE out soon a DTS release from Warner
If so, it'll be because it's actually owned by Morgan Creek, whom I believe are now doing DVD production in-house with Warner merely distributing them. That's how a DTS track ended up on 'American Outlaws'.
