Back to the Future R2 in December ?
Question:

amazon.co.uk and play.com both have changed the release date for this boxset to December.
Does that mean that they've finally regained their sanity and pushed the R2 release date back to include all the extras from the R1 set ?
I'm really surprised that none of the DVD websites have reported this yet.

Answers:

So suddenly noone cares about BttF anymore ?
Think about it - if the R2 has been pushed back to December - how likely is it that the R4 will be published in August ?

Answers:

Very likely. It WILL be out in August.

Answers:

Yeah, I've read the reviews on Michael D's site too.
Now that R2 UK date looks even stranger.
Maybe it was too late to change the R4 release and include the extras from the R1.
If the December date for the R2 set turns out to be true I think we can expect them to be included.
Maybe Universal realized how stupid it is to publish a set that is so inferior to the R1.
It would be really funny if in the end the R4 will be the only set without the extra extras.

Answers:

Now all R2 shops have changed the release date to December.
But since none of the many DVD websites seem to be interested in this info we'll have to wait till December to find out if the UK R2 will feature all the extra extras from the R1 - including the most important extra: the MJF commentary.
So everybody who's now buying the R4 set is running the risk of getting the ONLY inferior version of the boxset.
And I don't think even the idiots on eBay will buy it should the R2 version be that much better.
So a big "Thank you" to all the website people for sleeping through this important story.

so it doesnt have the mj fox commentary - whoopsie doo !
i will be looking forward to watching all 3 films in dts while all the dullards will be boring themselves with the fact they are waiting an extra 3 months+ for the greater good.
if the need to own the mj fox comm' is great why not buy the r4 discs in a few weeks (not months) for £16.99 and sell it before dec for say £10. then re-buy the r1 boxset and bore your mates with the fact this has the commentary plus ugly blue casing.
best of both worlds
:oh-hum:

michaeldvd says that MJF commentary is liking to be very limited and he will come up PIP.
I am sticking with 17.49 from cd wow (R4) and its R2 as well.

I'm not even bothered about that, just the fact that we get our hands on them 3 months before the people that have ordered R1/R2
:p
EDIT - And £10 cheaper at least

Answers:

Not interested in the R2 or R1 version. I will be getting my hands on the dual encoded R4/R2 version for £17 later this month.
After 7 months on these forums, I am amazed how choosey some people are when it comes to DVD's. If people are prepared to wait months and pay loads more money just to own an additional extra then fine, each to their own. I certainly do not class the R4 release of this DVD inferior. The buyers on ebay will certainly not be interested in the subtle differences between the regions for the sake of limited additional extras. If they were that bothered they would be on these forums...

Answers:

Well, I too have noticed that all R2 sites have changed to December, but last night, BBC Teletext confirmed that it was back to September 30th!!!!
Question is - is this old news or very new news?
Despite the fact that I love these films, I'm close to telling Universal to stuff it and not buy it at all - the release dates have had so many alterations its untrue.

Answers:

Of course anybody can get any version he/she chooses.
The point of my post was that the fact that the release date of the R2 has been pushed back and the possible reasons for this is NEWS. Big news.
And not a single DVD website has even mentioned this.
And there are a lot of people who would like to have both a PAL picture and all the extras. If the R2 will have additional extras then eBay will be full of all those people trying to get rid of their R4s - I doubt that you will get a very good price of it then.
And orac - I seriously doubt that the MJF commentary will consist of a few PiP comments. I think it's far more likely that there will be a full commentary with a few PiPs - like they had on 'The Goonies'.
The one comment I don't get is the "I've waited so long - I can't wait another four months!" Really ? You know, the original Star Wars movies are out on VHS - bad picture, bad sound, no commentary, no extras - but you can have them NOW. So why bother waiting for the DVD release ? The most important thing is to get them NOW, right ?

Answers:

I've got my my R1 ordered for under £18. I want the extras. i have them on VHS without the extras, so I don't want a DVD set without (all of) them as well :)
3 months is hardly anything to wait, especially not for an extra junkie and commentary freak like myself. ive waited over a year for some SE before, so 3 months is nothing!

Answers:

I think it all boils down to whether you are amazingly fussy about having extras or not. Personally I want the movies in their best possible audio.video glory so I'm getting R4 now..I simply don't have time to spend hours going through extras anyway. Perhaps R2 will have a something special, then again maybe not. I think €30 right now is good enuff for old Dan Druff.

Bought them years ago:nuts:

Well I cant wait and extra 4 months and the addition of some kind of MJF commentary isnt worth the wait.
£17 R4 for me, and ebay it for a tenner close to the release of the R1/R2 - IF - the MJF commentary looks like its going to be something special.
However, I have a feeling that in December there's going to be a lot of R1/R2 people disappointed with the "extra" extras!

Answers:

Well I can wait the extra 4 months but Im not going to because Universal has ****** around with this release for so long now & nobody really knows exactly what there getting anyway.
I simply don't care what region I get now as long as I get one, & as I've already placed an order for the R4 set I'll be sticking with it as I really don't have the desire to mess about anymore.
One thing I will warn people about though is that A) Although the R1 is available for a couple of quid more than the R4, there's a customs risk involved which would certainly make the total price paid less competitive, & B) Universal have a habbit of over craming their discs to a point where the transfer needs to be noticably compressed (AP2 for example). If this is the case, then the R2/R4 will almost certainly have a far better transfer than the R1 & Im not just talking about PAL vs NTSC issue's.

Answers:

what extra special features are on the r1 version?

Answers:

Hmm, I'm not sure on this. I was gonna wait for R1 but with the R4 release being so cheap and released so soon I might give in.
I don't mind if the R2 version is delayed cuz if I wait for the R1 release it would make it easier if I didn't see the R2 release on store shelves waiting to be bought ;-)

Its confirmed at the R2 project that the R2 is to be put back to December. Although bearing in mind the R2 will almost certainly be the most expensive region I don't really see how important this is.
If your interested in the 'extra' extras then your obviously going to buy the cheaper R1 so the release date of the R2 is quite irrelevent.

Answers:

get the region 4,Hell when you go to the Cinema you dont get Making of,Commentaries.
You go there to watch the Movie and nothing else.Out of all the DVD's i own i have never seen any special feature.
Why ruin the whole movie.

Yep, BTTF R2 will definitely be a December release. Universal PR let me know officially yesterday. The plan is obviously to reap maximum benefits out of the Xmas time shoppers!

Answers:

I listen to the commentary very rarely. Don't really want to hear what Fox has to say about this.
R4 for me (lovely BTTF in DTS while the sun is still shining)
Especially at £17, how could I say no ?

Answers:

tee - did they say anything about additional extras ?
The reason for not having them on the R2 has always been the early release date - so there's really no excuse for not having them if the set is released in December.

Answers:

Bit the bullet and ordered BttF R4 from www.cd-wow.com I can live without an extra commentary that I'd probably take an age to get around to listening to anyway. Hope that it does turn out to be R2 encoded mind or I'm screwed.

SvenL - hven't heard anything more mate. I really think they're changed it to a December release because they've realised what a big release its going to be and they can smell extra £££££££

Harsin, says this on the cd-wow site:
Interactive Features:
Interactive Menus, Scene Selection, Theatrical Trailer, Production Notes, Photo Storyboard, Making Of Feature, Filmography, Featurette, All movies also play on region 2 DVD Players.
Think you should be OK. At £18 I'm tempted myself - I'd imagine the R2 price will be exorbitant as per usual! Infact I shall have a word with SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED and see if I can liberate the c/card from her!

I've got an R2 only player, but it was confirmed on MichaelD's reviews that the disc is dual encoded. Any idea when CD-Wow will start shipping this?

Answers:

I've never ordered from them (though thats about to change methinks) but the release date is 25th August.
Perhaps someone with experience of them could advise how stringently they adhere to release dates?

I've ordered this, can't wait till December for the R2. Glad to hear it's dual encoded, any chance of a link to that review?

The hmv website put the date back to December but then a week later was back to Sept. 30th.

Here you go! (http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ReviewID=1754)
I also had it confirmed from the buyer at CD-Wow that it's dual encoded too. I really can't wait for this set to arrive, it's the only thing that's stopping me buying LOTR now (I'm getting the 4 disc set in November)

I've ordered my R1 set from DVDsoon for just over £17.00!:) so some sap off Ebay will pay what I want for the R4 as it's also R2 encoded and make a healthly profit and I'll get the better set in December!
