Question:
Is there anyone who can point me in the direction of a decent comparison between the R1 and R2 of season 3? I've got the R2 and am unpleased with the picture quality. (and I don't mean the disc authoring).
Admittedly the R2 was a slight improvement over the first two seasons, but I was still not happy with it. I dunno what they have done to it or what they think they are acheiving, but frankly the sky one repeats look nicer.
I compared the eps with some of my 10 year old official VHS tapes, and the VHS looked like they had been sourced from something much nicer that had not been tampered with.
I'm thinking of going R1 NTSC from season 4 onwards, even though that will add £30 to the pricetag. has anyone compared the two regions of season 3, and can confirm that they are better.
The real tester of course was that fact that a few months ago I had bought some of the re-released VHS next gen tapes (because they had 3-4 eps a tape), and they also looked like they were sourced from something worse than the original VHS releases.
Views anyone?
Does nobody know? In this whole forum?
Perhaps softening was done originally to hide the awful grain?
It looks like a softness filter was added, and then sharpened afterwards. Something which I would not endorse myself.
What I want to know is if the same thing has been done to the R1 versions?
If it hasn't, then I will buy the R1s instead.
