Question:
Wether you like the film or not is one thing but i think this issue affects all 2 disc releases in the future by Fox so it would be worthwhile in taking part in the hope that they don't continue with this worrying trend.
Below is a link for a petition to stop them 'downgrading' the current Fight Club disc to a one disc affair. Taken from a link on http://www.davidfincher.net/feature0015.html the petition can be found here http://www.petitiononline.com/fcdvd/petition.html
So far 2090 votes.
Like i said, it may not be worth it for this particular title (i think it is) but maybe if this petition succeeds it'll have bigger ramifications that hopefully say to Fox that re-releasing poorer versions of titles isn't on.
Not sure what the forums consensus is on this downgrading but i'd be seriously miffed if i had to replace my current 2 discs versions with one disc affairs because of fire, burglary, amorous cats etc, etc.
:)
Consider it signed!:)
Signed (after reading Robby's last paragraph).
this is only a marketing ploy so they can rerelease these films down the line as 2 discers again, if they are allowed to do this then we'll end up with all the studios doing a constant, irritating, yoyo of 1 and 2 disc releases
signed it is.
Aah, who cares? If it keeps us in decent 2-discers, I'd rather have the good version released first, THEN the pleb edition.
Take a look at any thread on Panic Room and you'll find that you already agree with me :D
I think downgrading <I>Fight Club</I> to a one-discer is an excellent idea.
After all, the current version is about 50-50 worthwhile stuff and crappy filler (much of disc two is strictly a watch-once affair, if that), so provided they retain the bits that are worth keeping, what's the problem?

According to the site the one-disc version would be a 'movie only' version with the most basic of extra features, trailers etc.
I agree that the majority of special features really are pretty superfluous but to reduce this to such a basic format I truly a crime.
Signed :)
The big question for me is... does the new one disc version of Fight Club come in proper packaging? Or is it once again housed inside a couple of recycled birthday cards?
Signed. Such a silly thing to do when Fox make some of the best 2 disc special editions around.
Signed: 2120. I have just bought this r1 edition because of this very "downgrading". Maybe thats the marketing plan from Fox, and they plan to release Fight Club: Classic after the single disc job. No, they wouldn't do that... :oh-hum:
Is the 2 discer to be deleted? Forgive me if it mentions that on the petition.
Signed 2122

Whilst i agree with the statement about maybe the 2nd disc only worth watching once, maybe twice, that's not to say in future a 2 disc set has a second disc worthy of repeat viewing, which will then (presumably) get the 1 disc treatment.
I guess it's down to how much of a collector the average DVD enthusiast is and wether something like this would bother you.
Of all the 2 disc editions i have Se7en and From Dusk 'Till Dawn (Not 20thCF thankfully) as well as FC are the two i'd hate to lose as i think they are great collectors pieces.
Thanks for the votes so far, i believe it to be a good cause and hopefully Fox will take those votes into consideration.

While much of the second disc is indeed filler that could definitely do with being edited down, probably into a good making of doccumentary, I hate the idea. Especially if any of the exceptional commentaries are lost.
The From Hell - released as a "limited edition" - second disc is a good example of a two disc set well worth keeping intact.h Whatever you may think of the film, the second disc contains a whole host of worthwhile and interesting material that contributes a lot to the package.
done. sig #2222.

The problem is that Fight Club won't be the last disc they downgrade (Big Trouble In Little China and Sound Of Music are up for the same treatment I think), and there may come a point where companies like Fox will begin to think it isn't worthwhile releasing Special Editions and stick to bare-bones versions.

Just kidding - down with Fox :(

Nice job on all the votes so far guys and gals. :)
I guess the collectors in you all really LiEk those two discs really :D
Most of the stuff on disk 2s is dull watch once fodder. Normally if there are three documentries they're all the same with different hosts for difference US networks showing exactly the same interviews/scenes/info. Only occassionally, is there actually something with repeat viewing potential...Looking through my 2 discers - only Spinal Tap (cos it has deleted scenes that play for longer than the movie) and Independence Day (for the hidden feature - the numerous Newscasts they made) have content I'd deem as rewatchable. So - I'd say, unless the movie is long or has DDEX and DTSES high bitrate tracks, there is not really any call for 2 discers.
Of course, what fox are doing is simply cutting the extras altogether and releasing barebones editions which is wrong. Fox just can't seem to do anything rigt at the moment...
Signed - although if they really must, then I'd prefer they released the the 2-discer first - rather than forcing fans to buy it twice by releasing a single disc followed by a previously-unannounced 2 disc set further down the line as some companies have done.
Either way, corporate whores the lot of them... ... and us for still buying the bloody things. ;)
I think this sort of thing is inevitable, you can't keep luxury 2-disc sets in print forever. I guess most of you guys are to young to apreciate the joy of having something you have go out of print and then not come back as good for a few years later. If theres any reason why they are downgrading this DVD it's because it's production costs probably outweigh the current sales, it's been out a while now and any self respecting DVD owner will already have it.

It would probably cost more to remaster and repackage the DVD than to just reduce the price of the two disc edition. Basically, they want to have mass market sales at a low price point, but don't want to devalue the perceived worth of a two-discer by dropping the price..
Hm... I'm kind of in a middle round here.
If something is percieved as being worth £25 or whatever, then that is what it is worth.
Its just the way it is. If people are happy to pay the price (and be honest noone ever goes out and buys a DVD because they've been forced to) then the price is right.
