Question:
On turning on my TV this morning (Toshiba 2987DB) there is a yellow tint to the whole TV. Even when I take the scart lead out of the back so there is no picture you can see it has a yellow tint like it is missing one of the pixel colours.
Is this likely to be the tube? Has anyone had experience with this?
Please help
Sounds like the CRT to me. :(
Assuming it is still under warranty, I would call Toshiba UK customer services who should be able to pick it up and repair it at their workshop for you, then return it within 3 weeks.
hth.
Sadly not under warranty.
Rang Toshiba for a quote on a Tube for the TV and they quoted me £736.
Only 7 times more than the TV cost me :(

Why do they even bother quoting a repair cost? They should just say set is non repairable when tube fails. I mean I can think of no one stupid enough to go for the repair at that price and I know some pretty stupid people. £736 buys a lot of television nowadays.
My mother's panasonic set would go to a green screen for a second and then switch off. A very intermittant fault. I opened up the set and checked everything and strangely now the set seems to have slowly lost this fault. Sometimes the panel at the end of the neck of the tube can work loose. So pressing this back in can solve problems. You'd have to disconnect the set from the mains and leave to stand for a day or so to make sure its all discharged before trying this though.
Basically though it sounds like a new TV is required.
Luckily after leaving the TV on for a while it seems to have fixed itself.
I think that by me having some headphones plugged in for a while may have caused some static feedback or something??
Ta :)
It sounds like a tube fault to me - I have the 32 inch version, and mine went blue rather than yellow, until it finally went fzzzt and died. Luckily, I had a 5 year warranty on it (a free one, too!) and even though the set was 4 years and 11 months old, the supplier replaced the tube, no questions asked, at no cost!
It MIGHT have been the headphones, but unless they were unshielded and you left them on top of the set, then they shouldn't have caused this. Still, you might get lucky.

Did you rest those headphones on the set with the earphones next to the tube? If so the headphone speaker units magnitism would have discoloured the tube, possibly enough so that the tube would need to be degaused (switched on from cold) a few times to clear it.
