Question:
I've seen one of the new 42" Hitachi's in my local Curry's but I think there's a fault in it and I want to compare with another one. Anyone seen one of these elsewhere in NI?
Richer Sounds in Belfast have one. What is the fault?
The one in Curry's has a pronounced ghosting on high contrast edges with DVD playback. Connection was composite and component via the media box. It was a Sony DVD player.
Thanks DD!
I work just outside Belfast so should be able to see it on a lunch break. :)
Hope its on display! I'm in Dublin and sent them the 'booking fee' to order one in as they won't sell display models for obvious reasons..I have a Sony DVD player! I hope all is well when I get one fairly shortly..in fact could you ask them if they got the sterling draft from me? I'll mail you..
Okay DD. I'll take a run down at lunch tomorrow. Can't do today.
Its £2500, and £150 for the tabletop stand. I mailed them a few times to see if they got the £250 but no answer. Will ring them I think.
Ron the guy in Richer Sounds rang me "They are flying out of the shop!" he says. There is one "in the back" he'll show you.
I take it I don't need to enquire about your transfer for you then?
No its OK Ron all sorted.
Fair enough Dan. I'm looking forward to my second viewing of the Hitachi. Hope it meets my expectations. I'll be taking my trusty Die Another Day DVD with me to test the high contrast handling. The scene where they all run up the beech at the start is perfect for this!
Perhaps the Hitachi is configured wrong in these shops though..i.e. contrast and brightness up too high, artifical picture enhancement modes switched on etc? I'm sure that after a while fiddling with it in the comfort of your abode the ideal pic will be attained judging from the good things I've read about the Hitachi.
What I saw is a definite image ghost. It's too big to be a contrast/brightness issue and not be classified as a fault. I'll know for sure tomorrow.
I emailed a bloke who owns one anyway..he has his DVD on his PC linked up via VGA. Asked him to check Die Another Day.
Good man Dan!
Bah! Never got to Richers today. Had to do something else unexpected. Oh well, will try again tomorrow.
That bloke hasn't got back to me yet. :(
BTW how you planning to connect to the Hitachi (if you get one)?
Well, if the ghost issue isn't a problem i'll be using the Hitachi media box that comes with it I guess. (If I get one). I havn't really looked into connections as an issue yet. Still trying to find that "perfect" panel.
AFAIK the plasma in Richer Sounds is the Hitachi PMA400e model.
1 S-Video
3 x BNC for component
2 x VGA inputs
I don't think there is a perfect panel! Not yet anyway.
When I say "perfect" I simply mean one that doesn't have some visible issue that I personally don't like. :)
Ah yer being picky there. Force fed a bit of composite in a locked room for 6 months is what you need.
LOL! Out of curiosity, is the PMA400e exactly the same display as the TV version from a point of view of contrast spec, resolution, use of ALIS tech etc? I know the connections di!-- answer 2-->Ron AFAIK yes, except its HDTV ready?
