Accoustic solutions or Packard bell
Question:

As you know i am after a 'cheap' surround sound kit.
it needs to have a decoder for 5.1 (and Dts if available), using a coax.
It needs to have at least 2 stands for the rears and also the fronts will need to be sheilded so they can be placed on the TV.
There seems to be 2 choices.
#1 accoustic solutions, £89 from argos. this has 5.1 and 2 stands
#2 Packard bell. £130 and has DTS as well.
Needs to fill a normal sized living room with decent sound and have clear and solid bass.
any suggestions? the cheaper the better as well.
also argos - the 16 day money back guarantee, may be handy

Bought the AS ones, quite good too!

Hi,
got the AR set and pleased with it, the one I got was a display set and I ended up with an extra set of stands and 2 spare spks.

Its not as bassy as my Jamo SW410 (10") but watching 'pink floyd - the wall' and the speakers are crystal clear and the sub can go quite low if it needs to.
For £90 its a great buy and good enough for a average sized room.
It was also the cheapest around from what i could see as well.

Does the Acoustic Solutions do pro-logic ( and have an aux stereo input) ?

Answers:

yup.
its got 3 inputs, one optical one coax and aux (ie stereo). you can select each one, so its restricted but just plug the TV into the aux so anything on tv is outputted and a DVD on one digital and possibly another input on the other digital.
you have boost for surround, centre and sub and also some DSP (which i never use) such as hall/theatre/etc.
It does Stereo, Pro logic (1) and dd5.1, and you can select pro logic and stereo on the small remote.
also there is bass and treble control + and - and also a 'bypass' which to me sounds clearer.
there are no indicators for where you are in regards to boost but its not a major problem.
its not a bad little (and cheap) system and cheap enough to be disposable (ie 6 months down the line) if you want to get a better system.
You may need some more stands unless you wall mount them.
Will get some pics later if you want.
