Advances in DVD player technology?
Question:

My current DVD player is coming up for 4 years old now (region-hacked Sony DVP-S325), and although I did quite a bit of research into the players available at the time, I've not really kept up with the technology over the last 4 years. So I was just wondering if player technology has advanced much in that period, maybe even enough to justify a new player, or am I just as well sticking with what I have?
Just don't ask me how much I paid for my player 4 years ago, OK! :)
Thanks in advance,
Andy

What are you displaying your DVD's on? If it's a projector, plasma or CRT TV which can accept progressive scan signals (via component connection for example) then i'd say get a progressive scan DVD player.
Go here (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_7_4/dvd-benchmark-part-5-progressive-10-2000.html) for an explanation of progressive scan and its benefits.

Answers:

The player is hooked up to a Panasonic 32" widescreen TV (sorry, I can't remember the model number off the top of my head) and a Videologic Digitheatre DTS sound system.
BTW, thanks very much for the link on progressive players poissony - at the risk of my girlfriend calling me a sad geek (again), twas very interesting.

Well, Panasonic do some CRT Tv's which accept Progressive Scan signals so yours may well be capable.
We're all geeks here mate :dork:
