Question:
I've got a Marantz SR5200 amp connected to my DVD player by coaxial.
Whenever a DVD starts playing (ie. film starts, chapter skip, layer change or releasing pause button etc) there's a noticeable delay from the when the video starts playing to when the amp picks up the sound (up to 4 secs with my current player).
I initially assumed this was all my DVD player's fault, but after connecting a few different players this weekend I still get the delay (all be it shorter at about 1 sec though).
Is this normal for an amp?
I don't get it on my Pioneer amp, sounds a bit odd (And annoying) to me.

Same ehre, I occasionally get a very slight delay on my Pioneer when it switches to DD/DTS, but only a fraction of a second at most.
Thanks guys. Just thought I'd check before sending it back as it's still under guarantee.
Have a Marantz SR5300, takes almost 2 secs to recognise the decoding. Common problem Iīm afraid, a small minority donīt appear to have this issue (but mine does... :( ).
Top notch amp otherwise, no complaints audio wise.
It's a known issue with some amps generally, and Marantz's specifically. I get it, albeit less than 1 second, with my SR7200 and Panny DVD-RV60 player - it does seem player-related as well. It is worse if the amp is set to Auto when looking for an incoming digital signal as the firmware then decides what the input is and changes the amp accordingly - setting the amp to a specific input signal type (eg. DD or DTS) can help.
4 seconds is excessive though and I'd get it swapped under warranty.
