Question:
Hi all,
I brought 2 Cyberhome 400 DVD players from Whsmith for £50 each, and have been experiencing problems with both of them. The problem is that while watching a film the screen flickers up and down now and again. I have tried every region of DVD and the same problem occurs and I also tried both DVD players on different T.V's. I use a normal scart lead to connect the DVD player to the T.V, does anyone know if I'm doing anything wrong?
Thanks in advance :)

Mains or ignition interference? Have you tried the players at a different house? Seems unlikely both would be faulty with the same fault. Are they set for RGB or s-video via scart? What televisions have you tried?
I haven't actually tried the 2 players in another house, how might that help? excuse my ignorance but how can I tell if its set to an RGB or S-video via scart? I've tried both of these players on my sanyo ED1 28inc which is around 12 years old (I don't know if the age of the T.V could be a problem) it has 2 scart sockets on the back. I also used my Silver Philips 14inc T.v to try it out, it was brought from Argos about 3 years ago and has 1 scart socket.
Thanks :)
If your using a standard scart cable (as possibly supplied) use it to connect the CH400 to the television making sure you use the main scart socket for connections if there is more than one. This will be marked scart 1 or euro-av or possibly scart (rgb). Check your manual if not sure to see which scart is rgb. If there is only one scart socket that should be rgb compatible anyway.
In the setup menus of the Cyberhome select PAL output (it might currently be on auto or ntsc). Also in the menus look for an option to cycle between s-video and RGB and select RGB output.
If you don't get a picture on the sanyo using the rgb setting it may not be rgb compatible. for test purposes only its probably best to use the Phiips portable as its more modern and will almost definitely have a RGB mode.
The only reason testing the players in another house would possibly help if it was mains interference or some other type of interference unique to your home.
The other possiibility is macrovision effecting the image. However as you seem to have the same fault with both televisions it seeems unlikely. Are there any differences between how the Philips portable works with the dvd players and the larger Sanyo?
Hi,
I have plugged my scart lead into my main socket where it says S video and it seems to have done the trick, I haven't experienced any problems so far. I have brought a new 21inc t.v (not because of the problems) and I have no problems with the DVD players in that. Thanks for your help :)
RGB is better than S-video in most circumstances though.
