Have a got a faulty Pioneer DV-350K??
Question:

I bought this DVD player from Amazon in March and overall have been very pleased with it. However I've noticed that I have had quite a few issues with disks, such as freezing, skipping and pixilation. I had NO such issues with my old Toshiba 2109.
This has happened with such disks as The Hours (R1), Bourne Identity (R1), froze once during FD2 (R2). The latest problem is Treasure Planet (R2) which the kids have just been watching. Throughout it froze, stuttered and pixilated - it appears fine when I play it on my PC.
All disks appeared unmarked.
Does this indicate a problem or is this player just 'sensitive' .

Could be a dirty lens. Could try a good lens cleaner, if not then is within warranty so RMA it.

Could you suggest a good lens cleaner? Thanks.
Would the lens really need cleaning after five months?

Like most japanese companies Pioneer rely on chinese made products now. While designed in japan modern Pioneer budget dvd players are assembled in shanghai and dongwan pioneer factories with mainly lowish grade local components without a brilliant quality regime. The workers earn only 5% of that paid to Japanese workers roughly. The point is at the bottom end of Pioneer's range these models are good value but they are made to a standard no better than the so called supermarket cheapies. If you have such a Pioneer player and it starts playing up you should take it back and seek a refund straight away. There is a big difference in the quality of japanese made Pioneer products and the products made in China. Don't leave it until the dvd player is out of warranty and useless. By all means try a lens cleaner but if no joy get a refund.

I heard other people have had similar problems with the Pioneer 350. Pioneer released the Pioneer 360 only a few months ago and I have not had any problems with, not one bit of pixcelation or any other problem. It may just be slightly cynical nature of some things but I personal suspect that maybe Pioneer realised there were some problmes with the 350 models and thus quickly released the 360 which has no problems which is essential the same but with an added optical out and improved perfomance, appearance wise they are also nearly identical. There was only a 7 month gap between the release of the 350 and 360 and althougth as some people point out that is not to bad for the replacement to be released seeing as the 350 and 360 are so similar I still have my suspicions.
I would return it and get the Pioneer 360 from amazon instead, you should find that you have none of the problems you mentioned.
