Digibox lacks S-Video..plasma cable options?
Question:

I'll be getting a Hitachi PMA400e Plasma fairly shortly..as its screen only it lacks Scart but has S-Video and 15pin RGB inputs. I usually output the Digibox via Scart..it lacks S-Video.
Do you recommend a Scart -> S-Video cable or adaptor, or Scart -> 15 pin RGB for this plasma (PDF details here (http://www.lynx.net.uk/justprojnew/images/pdfhitpma400e.pdf)).
Cheers,
Druff

I think this is the recommended kit

I don't have a plasma, but from what i've heard ... an RGB picture is generally better than s-video, so I guess it would be preferable to keep your RGB Sky box / DVD signals in their native form and use either a box like the ones above to give you a D-Sub RGB output (an expensive option) ... or get a RGB SCART > D-Sub RGB cable made up (you might need help / advice on that).
Anyway, no doubt someone will be along to give you the low down. :)

www.keene.co.uk have this
SCART - 15 PIN HD MALE RGB (Hsync & Vsync) 2.0M (Code SBB92H)..£39.99. Recommended?
SCART - 15 PIN HD MALE RGB (WIRED RGsB) 2.0M (code SBB92)..£29.99..I presume this is the one?
Cheaper than the above (http://www.rgbtosvideo.com/) which I looked at but required my cables to be bought etc.
I have a Scart lead and S-Video cable already..whats the best connector for these DYK for Scart out-> S-Video?

You need a bit of electronics in a SCART to VGA cable - both to seperate the composite sync into seperate H & V sync and usually to amplify the signal. I use a keene SYNCBLASTER cable - not cheap but works great...
...and as the anti-burn-in screen rotator thing only works on the DSUB input of my fujuitsu plasma I thought £70 was a small price to pay to avoid the dreaded burn-in.

While you're waiting for someone to come back with a response, why not have a search for the various projector threads. If you search for the Panasonic PTAE100 or similar, I'm sure people were discussing connectivity. There are going to be very similar issues for projectors and plasma screens.

Why not try a ProV + ? (http://www.av-sales.co.uk/html/prov_plus.html) includes svid / composite input. Inbuilt Nicam TV tuner and RGB 15 way out

RGB is far superior to S-Video. And the kit mentioned above by JS Technology is generally considered to be the best. I've got one for my Pioneer 433MXE and the picture is wonderful. Look, if you're going to spend three grand on a TV, £120 for a converter to get the best possible picture isn't that much, surely?
Don't compromise with S-Video. You'll regret it. Believe me. My Sky+ has S-Video output and the picture is nowhere near as good as converted RGB SCART.
EDIT: Oh, and a straight SCART to VGA lead can lead to sync dropouts, so that option isn't really recommended.

Thanks guys. I may invest in the RGB convertor at some point..probably for Christmas..I have 2 Scart leads at the moment, and 1 S-Video lead (a 30 footer from my projector days)..all gold plated.. I don't believe the Scarts are RGB only, it was about 3 years ago when I bought them. For the moment preferably the only new cable I want to invest in is of course the component for the DVD player. I will be happy enough with S-Video for a few months, using existing leads as 1 Scart lead and 1 S-Video lead will be made redundant otherwise..I may invest for the mo in a cheapish Scart output->S-video adaptor and use 2 of my existing cables..that way I'll appreciate the component pics even more!
