Budget DVD players that will run on 220V?
Question:

I would like to take a dvd player over to some relatives in Poland as a gift when I go in September. I was hoping to be able to take a player such as the Pacific 1002 from Asda but in the manual it states the power requirement is 230V. Does anyone know if this will work OK in Poland?
If not, are there any other cheap players that will work on 230V with a plug adapter?

Answers:

the uk is 230v!

Most domestic electrical appliances will run on 220 to 240V, which as Saxton says is the standard voltage for the UK and at least Western Europe. Don't know what standard Poland works to though. Why not pop into a decent book shop and have a browse through a Rough Guide to Poland or something similar ? Voltages and such things normally rate a mention somewhere in these type of guide books.

wouldnt the Pal / ntsc issue be more relevent? or do they use Pal in Poland?
amy ways UK should be close to 240V but there is always a leeway and it is closer to 230 normally, but the player should be fine at 220

Answers:

I always thought the UK ran at 240V but I knew there could be some leeway. Poland runs at 220V according to the guide I was reading yesterday and I'm almost certain they use PAL.
Looks like I should be OK with the Pacific then. Thanks for the replies.
