Question:
I can't remember but are component video leads specific to component video or can standard phono leads be used?
Standard phono leads can be used, just make sure you have the corresponding colour codes connected correctly. Also if you can try to use the same type/grade of phono cable ;)
ta very muchly, saves me £30-40 fora new set of cables
WHOOO!!
Component video requires the cable to be 75 ohm. I don't know how strictly essential it is, never having tried it without, but I think regular phono cable is less resistant. Also, as the cables for component tend to be bundled together I believe its best if its shielded. I doubt you can damage kit by trying it though.
Component is exactly the same as composite. For short connections cheap thin phono leads will do the job but for long runs you'll need thicker cables with superior shielding to prevent interference and signal loss. If you have gold plated phono sockets on the equipment for component its best to use gold plated phono connectors on the cables.
