Germany's best kept secret.
Question:

Just taken delivery of a brand spanking Loewe Aconda 32" 100Hz TV.
I am amazed at the picture quality and some of it's features.
Why don't more of you have one? I had demos of RPTV's,Plasmas,WEGA's and other CRT's and not one came close to the quality of the LOEWE.
Go get one now before the secret is out :D

Because they cost £££ and we don't all travel the world devouring huge corporations contractors budgets as we go ? ;)

Not that much, I hear qof people on here buying the Tosh RPTV sets and they are not far from the cost.
I paid £1600 for mine with a 5 years parts and labour warranty.
How much is the 32" Sony WEGA 100Hz model?

What a load of rubbish!
The lowest I have seen the 32" 100Hz WEGA (Which does not even come close to the Loewe quality) is £1100
I'll await your mail.

Not denying the Loewe is a nice set, but £1600 for a 32" CRT is ludicrously overpriced. One I saw in Sevenoaks last week even had geo problems.
Still, if you're happy with it that's all that matters.

Answers:

And you'd buy from them? . I was making a comparison in terms of similar price range.
Thing is Baps I could have got the set for about £300 cheaper online but I wanted to buy from a high street retailer.

That's about right for the WEGA.

Answers:

Eh? The 32FX65 is a WEGA. (The FQ is a 'Lifestyle' WEGA)
And yes I've bought from Krish before, they've got a shop in Chiswick.
John Lewis will price match them too, btw.

I am more than happy with it. In fact extatic would be the word.
I just cannot describe the picture quality. I have never seen anything come close (Apart from the HD I was working with back in Japan). Maybe I'm just biased but the Sony's I looked at were just average. The Loewe Aconda range jumped out at me and all the people who have seen the set have been blown away.
I hope that they get bigger and bigger and eventually take Sony on. They're popping up in stores like House of Fraser and John Lewis so it shouldn't be too long before the Germans take over :D
Can you tell I like it?

I have an Aconda which I paid £1,300 online about 6 months ago. They are expensive (the stand is an extra £300  ) , but the quality is outstanding, better than any other CRT TV I demo'd imo.
They can also do a number of things that other TVs can't, like take a component input through one of the scarts, internally prog scan (with much better results than other internal deinterlacers) and display VGA prog scan with an optional card.
Yer pays yer money, yer takes yer choice, but I recommend anyone who is thinking of spending £1,500 on a TV to consider the Aconda. In the end I decided against the 36" Sony and got the Loewe instead, such was the difference in picture quality.

Well my Aconda came with the stand (it was an exdemo) - but I don't really need it - it is about 300 new, but i'd be looking for less than that 200 ? - I'm also moving down your way in the near future so I could even deliver it.

Which colour Aconda did you get in the end ?

Did you go for the 9281 or the 9381 Philc?
I have a 9381 with the VGA card fitted and it does defy belief. Mine had zero geo problems and looks the business even with fairly cheap DVD players attached.
I paid nearly 1700 for mine which is below normal price, but how often do you buy the best quality TV available?

Are you using the VGA card to get prog scan input yet, as I'd be interested to see if it could be done on a reasonable budget
Phil

Answers:

No, just a HTPC, but if you search for loewe and vga on avforums.com you will see a big thread on how it is done.

Answers:

i've seen all that, but no-one had found a reasonably priced non-HTPC option, how much of a difference does it make (I find jaggies really annoying now)

They have LOEWE TVs in my local Rayleigh Hi-Fi and the pictures to be honest are not that great. I would expect a 'reputable' audio/video dealer to have some experience of getting a decent picture.

I went for the 9281ZW which is the same as your 9381 in every aspect apart from the colour.
Yours comes in a high gloss finish which really does look tacky! :D
Brian I am very interested in the glass stand which you are offering and would really prefer the delivery option.

Silver (safe option if I ever come to sell it).

Huzzah, I'm in Newcastle - but my wife works near Didcot now (you're in Newbury right) and I'm moving down there (for September) so
1. At the end of August I could bring it round and help you get the telly onto it
or
2. My wife is up next w/end with the car, so could deliver it on Sunday if I ask her nicely - but you'll have to get it out of the car by yourself
shall we take this to email now :)

Except the Tosh tube of course.
Boink! - I guess they didn't get it right in that particular shop then, as the Aconda stands out a mile when set up correctly.

Answers:

Tosh tube?
Brian I am in Japan again for a week or two so i will definitely mail you about this when I get back.
Cheers

Couldn't agree more, when I was looking for a new set a while ago the Loewe was on my list, but then I noticed a philips set that had nearly as good a picture for 25% less (and included the stand), I then was told elsewhere that Philips make the tubes anyway (don't know if this is true, but they were remarkably similar).

Answers:

Yep, the 9381 use Philips tubes, but superior peripheral technology/components and processing technics to produce the superior picture.
The 9281 use Toshiba tubes with similar improvements over standard Toshiba tellys.
The new Loewe Articos uses the new Pixelplus Philips tube and once again improves upon it (and hence why the Articos is so expensive).

I have to agree with the original poster - Loewe TV are the daddy. i have a 28" Xelos bought for £800 from a reputable dealer in Stafford. Everybody who has seen it has fallen in love with it's black lines, picture quality and superb standby mode (where the picture draws in like a pair of curtains). I also understand that Loewe are amongst the most reliable brands out there (significantly more so than a certain Japanese brand that shall remain nameless).
If you can afford it, get one you won't regret it.

Answers:

Interesting to see quite a few owners on the AV Forums reporting a few faults now. Personally their styling leaves me cold....that and the fact that they're well overpriced IMO. I also have to say that I was expecting the pictures to be stunning, yet they were no better than a number of other makes on display to my eyes.

Answers:

Radiohead don't agree mate, maybe the sytling isn't as nice as the Tosh pictureframes or some of the Wegas but the picture quality is like none other. As you know they never have them setup correctly in the shops and I can guarantee you that the quality is awesome.
