Question:
I've recently bought a Yamaha HTR5550 amp and some eltax liberty speakers - i'm well impressed with the sound through my dvd player and ps2 but the sound through my sky digibox (grundig) sounds a bit tinny. i was wondering what was the best way to wire them up?
At the moment i've got 2 phono cables going into the rear speaker inputs of the amp (although i do get sound from all speakers)
as you can probably tell i'm new to all this so any help would be much appreciated!
:help:
I'm not familiar with the Yamaha HTR5550 amp but I cannot understand how you've managed to plug phonos into the "speaker inputs". I don't know what these are, you get speaker outputs but not inputs!
Have you connected the output from the Grundig to the "Phono" input on the amp? This is reserved ONLY for record decks. You can't use it for anything else!
What choices do you have on the input selector? Maybe you have some other input you can use for the Digibox such as "Aux" or "Tape In".

the phono leads are plugged into an input labelled rear l/r which is then outputted to the speakers i think. as i said i'm new to all this and would just like the best way to get surround sound for sky via my amp (though i realise this will never be 5.1) given that the digibox has no co-axial or optical outs.
I'll try and get an image of the inputs/outputs of the back of my amp. cheers anyway
The easiest way to do it is connect the phono output from your TV to an aux input on your amp - then anything that is an analogue stereo source playing through your tv will work without having to change source selection, (e.g. video/terrestrial tv/sky etc)
You want to plug the sky (or tv if it has one) left/right phono output to an audio input left/right in the amp, and then select pro-logic on the amp to get analogue surround sound.
