Question:
After putting it off for years I've finally decided to bite the bullet and setup a home cinema system in my bedroom.
Looking around the sheer number of choices available are overwhelming so I'd appreciate any comments/criticisms on items I've narrowed down for a shortlist.
Budget would be an absolute max of £1k but if I can save a bit the better.
Setup 1:
http://www.creative-audio.co.uk/2802KHT.htm
Denon AVR2802 Receiver
(RRP - £649)
Mk 2 KEF Eggs KHT 2005.2 speaker package (RRP - £799)
+
35m 79 strand speaker cable
+
5m Subwoofer cable
+
1m Digital coaxial lead
+
1.5m 2 phono - 2 phono lead
+
10 x 4mm plugs
+
'On Screen graphics' lead
£949
My room is a fairly reasonable size, and while floorstanders and standmount speakers would be fine, I really like the look of the KEF Eggs, and all comments I've seen look to be very very positive. My only concern is are they really THAT impressive ? Can they fill a room and make it come to life ? I realise a demo is in order, but just how good are they ?
The Denon 2802 I dont really know much about (just started looking), but for an ALL-IN package, I thought the one above looked pretty good (but what do I know !)
Would there be a better alternative ? Are there any bottlenecks ?
Setup 2:
Marantz SR4300
Mission M73/74 - Fronts
Mission M71C - Centre
Mission M7DS - Rears
£700ish I imagine
Would the KEF setup be significantly better than going the way of Mission ?
Both ideally I'd like to demo, its just a completely coincidental opportunity has arisen re: the KEF's in that I'll be staying VERY close to Creative Audio next week and they can only be bought in person....
Cheers
EDIT:
Mission M70 series cinema sets are even tempting now too as they have good reviews. ALOT cheaper than the KEF's but inferior ?
Will be demoing the KEF's on Friday. 1st demo session, woo !
Anything i need to know ? Suggestions ?

Good deal. How the hell did you swing a demo so quickly? :suspect:
Friends in high places :p
;)
I've heard the Kef Eggs with a cheap low-end Marantz and they were quite average... partner them with a decent amp and they will sound much better. I think Option 1 will give you the best sound setup.
Just seen that the Denon AVR1803 has a deal making the KEF setup £888.
Anyone have any experience with the 1803 vs 2802 ?
There is a thread about the 1803 here... can be bought cheaper than from Creative Audio but perhaps they can price match?

The amp sounds pretty good and is something, along with the Kefs, I will be giving some serious consideration to in the next few days.
EDIT - Just had a look at http://www.homecinemachoice.com/ and between the two the 2802 appears to be a better option.
