Question:
Having just taken the plunge into the PJ world, I would like to get a cheap but quality DVD player with Prog Scan (preferable with both PAL/NTSC), also preferably with DVD-A capabilities.
It needs to definitely have a built in DD/DTS decoder as I want to be able to use my Videologic ZXR-500 speakers on them.
Someone mentioned along the lines of a Tosh 520 to me? Just missed out on one going for £110 on the AV forums. :(
Any thoughts on the above player and any more suggestions?
Thanks in advance. :)
Any suggestions? :)
Try this beauty (http://www.kingdom88.com/bos/listings/960.html) my friend...no Pal progressive but has DVD audio and DD and dts decoders built in and has NTSC progressive. I've had one for about 3 months now and am very happy with it...can be found cheaper on the net if you shop around also...

Does your amp have an optical input for DD and DTS? Or do you require a DVD player with the six phono outs on it?

My amp has an optical out but I need to use the the Videologic ZR500 5.1 speaker set on them which I believe only has phono connectors so I would need a DVD player with six phono outs.
I've recently acquired another amp (Denon 1803) and was wondering whether I can plug my ZR500 speakers on this? This way, I would not necessarily need another DVD player with DD/DTS decoders.
Can I get speaker cables that are phono at one end which splits into two speaker cables(red/black)?
It sounds to me like you'd need new speakers - you can't have phonos to speaker wire, they're two entirely separate outputs. The Panasonic mentioned above sounds like a good bet, although I'm not 100% sure it has the six phonos you need.
It's a shame you missed the Compacks 5000 that was in Safeway for £50 - it has all the phonos in the world, NTSC *and* PAL progressive scan! Although it's crap at seamless branching, it would certainly have done the job.
