KEF Eggs: buying separately?
Question:

I'm starting to get my lounge 'upgrade' together, and want some of those lovely KEF eggs. The www.superhi.co.uk chain have the five speakers and the sub for £499 and I daresay Richer will grudgingly price match.
However, does any one know where I can perchance save money and get the speakers without the sub? I'm quite happy with the one I have.
Advice much appreciated!

Answers:

Those will be the Mk1 eggs and KEF are pushing the packages to get rid of supplies due to the recent release of the Mk2's.
Get a copy of WHF and hit the phones.....
:)

Answers:

£495 is what we have them for at John Lewis.
I think the price for the Mk1's are the same across the board.

Creative Audio in Shrewsbury will do 5 Mark 2 KEF Eggs for £399 and the full she-bang for £649 incl subwoofer/speaker cable but NOT by mail order - you have to visit in person see www.creative-audio.co.uk
But you could just get John Lewis/Barclaycard to pricematch/price promise
I intend on getting them from my local Audio T on Barclaycard and getting them to price promise.
For the difference in price I wouldn't go for the Mark 1's now unless they were very cheap.

Answers:

Indeed, no-one will sell Mark 1's for less than £80 each separately so why bother??
You could also try discounttv.co.uk?

Answers:

Mark 2s it is then - Creative Audio don't mention the five speaker only deal on the website (unless I'm mistaken) so how does the Barclaycard Price Promise work then? Do I get a written/email quote from them and use that?
Alas I reside in Essex, so a trip to Shropshire is a bit too much for a set of speakers!

This link (http://www.creative-audio.co.uk/KHT2.htm)
Right at the bottom of the page it gives prices for separate, pairs, stands and fives etc
The Barclaycard price promise is detailed here (http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/Card_Benefits/Price_Promise/index.html)

Here as well...

There are no £399 packages anywhere as such. It's just that each egg is £80 and they knock a quid or so off.
Mine were £79 each inc delivery.

OK, you're a fine man too CLH ;)
Obviously being able to order online will be an advantage, but I will try my luck with the fabled Richer Sounds price match (provided my local branch have the speakers of course)

Just make sure they have them in stock before you mention price matching, not that they suddenly run out of stock when price match is mentioned.:suspect: :D

Don't think Richer sounds do the eggs do they?
You might be better off just getting the eggs and buying a better sub as well as the one in the set is, to say the least, crap.

Couldn't agree more. Any MJ Pro, Velodyne etc will kill it for that kind of price!

If we are talking about the Mark 2's then the sub is supposed to have been vastly improved and may at least be worth an audition with the package, I know I will. I do take reviews with a pinch of salt but August's What-Hi Fi really seem to emphasis the complete change in design/power etc of the new sub
I suppose the question is whether 5 MK2 Eggs plus a sub from A N Other would be better than with their own redesigned sub for approximately the same price e.g. £250 for a sub?
dts - how are you getting on with your VX-10? I notice that uncle eric has that on powerbuy elsewhere at £199 - this combined with Eggs would make it a good deal at about £600'ish

Grandmaster - in case it was of interest to you someone over at avforums has 6 mk1 Eggs for sale at £280 plus post/collection.

Cheers for that, but I think I'll be going for the £399 set of Mark 2s.

This is the first sub i have had (heard others) and i can say it's a very good sub for the money. Some people don't like the look of it but mines not for show it's for sound :)
For £200 your not going to find a better sub unless you get another velodyne extremely cheap.
