Question:
Hi I'm looking for a good Home Cinema Package for under £1000 - basically it needs:-
DTS Encoding
Component/Progressive Scan
5.1 Speaker or if under £1000 a 6.1
Currently looking at the Sony DAVS888 for around £600 is this good?
I'm getting the Hitachi 42PMA400E Display also soon.
And will be JUST for watching DVD's so no need for Tuner.
thanks
Bump..
Anyone got an all in one or not?
I'm looking at this Toshiba - http://www.rgbdirect.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=1532&ReferrerCode=2
a lot cheaper than your budget, DTS, Componet and comes with all speakers etc.
If the picture is as good as my SD-330 then it's a bargain
Sounds good but it's only DTS compatible rather than in built in DTS decoder. I'd need an external decoder..
thanks anyway least I know someone is getting all in ones..
Hmm just checked Home Cinema Heaven and saw a cool system - the Harman Karden 2550 DTS/Prog scan all in one for just £999 (just my budget) and high-class. this is mine..
Good point about the DTS, didn't spot that.
I got yamaha htib for my htpc - fantastic sound and spdif pass from the htpc :)

Just looking at the Toshiba unit and it appears it does in fact decode DTS, according to this place anyway

why not buy
tosh 330 DVD £80
Yamaha 440 receiver £220
Kef 2005 speakers £500
total cost - 800 and a great set up????
Or bump up to your limit and get a pioneer 656?
get better results
:norty:
I've got the JVC TH-V70
it looks good with it's futuristice styling and it has a DTS decoder built in. No progressive scan though. The subwoofer is also rather large but it has good bass. Its usually about £550 to £600 but I think Richer Sounds do it for £350 or £400 in the multiregion form. I got the region 2 version and cannot find a hack to convert so go for the multiregion.
:brickwall
sorry
futuristic not futuristice
Yeah i've just got back from richersounds and they were very keen to offload the JVC TH-V70 onto me...
Which made me wonder why.. then in the parking lot out the back the storage area was open and noticed 30 or so of em stacked up.
I like the design, but im thinking of going with the Sony 550 as its a little cheaper and from what i've read its not all that different in sound quality..

The sound different between the two is huge.I went in Richersounds to listen to both the Sony and the Jvc and their is only one winner ,Jvc by miles. The sony dosn't have an active sub and the bass generate by the Jvc is 1st class.
I hooked the Jvc with Sky+ and the DD 5.1 movies on Sky sound fantastic.
I bought a Pioneer NSDV55 and I've never regretted it, there was a model available below the NSDV1000 but it seems to have vanished from homecinemaheaven's site.
AS a past NS-DV55 owner I can wholeheartedly agree although there are better all in ones out there now - if you watch a lot of TV DPLII is soooooo much better than plain Pro Logic.
