Question:
Does anyone know what the difference between these two machines are. Looked on the Pioneer site and thier spec is EXACTLY the same and they are a similar price. Only difference I can see is that they look different, the DV-464 seem to match a Pioneer amplifier but that is the only difference I can see? Any ideas, they both came out in the past two months?
Other than the 464 being possibly better build quality (IMHO) than the 360. I think the 464 is there for the matching amp/receiver
The audio DAC on both players are also a bit misleading as it can only be used at 96kHz at 24bit.
Have you seen them then? I just got the 360 and it just confused me a but as they seemd the same!?
I've seen them in my local shop and I used to have some brouchures lying around regarding Pioneer's new line of DVD players.
Im pretty sure they're the same internally, but have different construction quality on the outside, probably more material used and costs just a bit more to manufacture than the 360.

oh right I thought that might be the case. Still seems a bit strange to release two dvd players so similar! I don't know which is more expensive, I read in a magazine the 464 was £120 but I dunno if that was the best they had seen it for or about th RRP. I know you can get the 360 for £90 quid from amazon but I believe the RRP is £140-£150, like the 350 before it, so I don't know which is more expensive normally.
The Dv-464 might have slightly better quality connectors/cables (internally) which can make a difference to the quality of the output...
I agree that it's possible the build quality and some components might be superior, but is it more expensive or not?! I think the 360 is about £120 - £130 RRP (not £140-£150 like I original thought) and the magazine said that the DV-464 was £120 but like I said I don't know if that was the best price they could find or the recomened price, but don't ussually magazines ussualy say the RRP? Who knows!!
Maybe the 464 is cheaper than the 360 cos there may be lots of units to shift from stock? Like you said, who knows:)
Pioneer does, lets ask 'em...
Well I did ask Pioneer the same question as above the answer was
"the only difference between these 2 models is cosmetic"
Not exactly the most detailed answer but they did reply pretty quick and it does answer the question.
So now we know, I suppose it's just personal preference then really if you want one.
Think I'll opt for the DV-464... :)
Also then replied asking
"So technicaly exactly the same components and hardware are used for both models?, they are the exactly the same under the case so the DVD playback, picture and sound quality, are EXACTLY the same?"
There response was
"yes they perform the same and we decided to just have 2 visually different models so people have a choice."
Might be tempted to go for the older DV-550 (reduced to £140 at Amazon) since the 27MHz/10-bit video D/A converter looks superior (might be wrong here) and the signal to noise ratio is rated slightly better at 118dB compared to the DV-360/464's 115dB...
Got a budget of around £100 - £150 max, any thoughts before I place order?
