If your box doesn't have an optical or coaxial audio output, you're stuffed really. I think the DD5.1 is for Sky+ owners who have the optical output on the box...
Yep you can only get 5.1 via a Sky + Box
thanks alot fellas
Does anyone know what the quality is like via sky+. Does it sound like proper 5.1, I was reading about how it is transmitted and it seems that the signal is very compressed.
I got Sky+ installed yesterday and was playing around with the 5.1, the only conclusion I've come to so far is that the Dolby Digitial signal is much quieter than the usual stereo signals on the other channels.
That is generally the case though. I have to turn my amp up when switching from Sky to DVD, and remeber to turn it back down afterwards  To do with the dynamic range of Digital i think.
You can alter the output volume of the Sky box through the Services menu. I have had to turn mine down a fair few notches since the low quality compression on some channels causes some nasty clipping through the centre channel when using my amp...
