Question:
Can anyone help to suggest a decent budget DVD player that is 100% compatible with DVD-R's and VCD's?
I would prefer something under £80.
How about the CyberHome CH 400 DVD Player. I'm about to buy one myself tomorrow if WHS have some in stock.

Or for a full-sized, all-singin', all dancin' player with an LED try the Compacks DVD5000 from Safeways for £49.49 - more info here (http://www.area450.com/thesampozone/players/dvd5000.htm)

another vote here for the Compacks DVD5000 from safeway - picked one up last night. Blows my samsung 709 and xbox playback (which is very good) out of the water.
Got to agree with the Compacks fans. Best £50 I've spent in a loooooong while. Once I tweaked the RGB output, and slightly altered the geometry for NTSC playback on my TV's service menu, it's a corker of a player. Has played almost everything I've thrown at it so far, MP3s, VCDs/SVCDs, CDR/RWs even raw VOB files and an ISO of a miniDVD with DD/DTS/THX trailers I found on the web...(although some of the trailers stuttered, but they did on my PC too, so it must be a problem with the encoding)...
Picture quality is astounding through RGB, although there is a little haloing/ghosting through S-Video. However, it's RGB performance cetainly beats many other players of 4 times it's price. Haven't had a chance to try out the progressive scan playback due to a distinct lack of a projector/plasma display....
Clayts' Area450 site (http://www.area450.com) has a mine of info on the player.....and I shall be testing my DVD5000's Macro-friendliness in due course, and reporting there on my findings...
