HS2 owners help needed?!?
Question:

I love my HS2 in every way. It’s brilliant.
However, to my very critical eyes it appears to not show absolute true black and also slightly alternates black levels in dark scenes.
This doesn’t happen with any DVD-R’s I create and playback on another machine. It only affects HD recordings and DVD playback from the HS2. So it looks like a slight output problem.
Also between things like menu screen and playback starting the screen goes grey, pulses slightly and then starts the film almost like it’s hunting for a signal. By contrast my Sony DVD player just gets on with things.
Does anyone else get this or is it likely to be a fault??

Hi mate
Can`t say i`ve noticed anything like this on my HS2 though i only normally playback from the HD as i still have my Pioneer player for DVD playback.
I have however noticed another possible fault in that when i record a program to the HD i get what i can only describe as a rainbow effect suddenly appear which lasts for about 1-2 seconds then disappears, This only normal occurs once during any program i`ve recorded but seems to happen every time
I know there has been quite a few mentions about the black level here (http://www.thewholewideweb.com/forum/) so maybe you may find an answer !!
Cheers

Everytime I manage to convince myself of buying a HS-2 then another fault turns up on the HS-2.As the cheapest you can get one for is just over £600 then Im sorry if Im paying £600 and the retail is £850 then I want it to work without any quirks.Mmmm wot to do wait for years for the 100 to drop to a reasonable price or get a E50 now.Are Panasonic fixing all these little quirks with the HS-2,is this like waiting for a service pack for the new Windows Operating system:D

When I first got my HS-2 I connected it to a Sony video and a Humax sat box. Whenever I used the one-touch record (how annoying is that, not being able to do this from remote!) I got a second or so of black screen - a complete pain cos usually the reason for using the one-touch was to record something once it had started. Now I have the same HS-2 connected to a Sky digibox and a Tosh 32ZP38 (wonderful telly!!) and it no longer does it despite initially using same cheapo scart leads.
Just an example that not all 'faults' may be what they seem.

Isn't the record button near the top of the remote. Close to the power buttons?

Exactly but it doesn't do the one-touch function.

Strange it does one touch on mine.

By the way you will find quite a few references to the Black level output of the HS2 and all other things HS2 realated here:

You are not the only one to have mentioned this. I have noticed that blacks could be a touch darker on my HS2 hard drive recordings.

For me it starts the recording (as you'd expect!) but won't let you dial in 30/60/90 etc minutes.

Should this work? If so how do you do it?

I couldn't get this to work after reading the manual, but after re-reading the manual it says it only works from the record button on the unit NOT the remote and it does work for me like that.

That was exactly my point - it's such a stupid, frustrating omission.
