Best DTS Amp to drive KEF 2005 Mk2's?
Question:

Hi, I plan on buying a set of KEF speakers tomorrow (Thursday), convieniently I have a day off work so I am going to pop into Shrewsbury and pick a set up from Creative Audio.
What kind of Home Cinema AMP would be good to drive these speakers?
Are any of the Sony amps worth their name any more? I know the Sony 930 & 940 were ledgendary.
Im looking for an amp with an output of at least 100W per channel.
I have a budget of around £300 for the amp.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Forget about the 100w per channel and concentrate on the quality of amplification. For £300 it has to be either the Marantz SR4300, the Pioneer VSX-811D or the Yamaha DSPAX640 (or the RXV540 if you want a receiver). I'm not aware of anything to match those in the Sony range.
For good AV and excellent music go for the Marantz, for excellent AV and fair music go for the Yamaha. The Pioneer is great with films but a little bright with music.

Everything he said.

Yup, I agree with Radiohead. Marantz are great, though I recommend seeing if you can up your budget from the SR4300 to the SR5300 which would be a better long term av investment [but, I'm not trying to spend your money for you].
QED_uk.com have the SR5300 for £333.93 delivered.

Well I went into Birmingham and picked up a black Denon 1803 for £279.
The galling thing is that I now find the price of the same amp was £239 at the place I went to only an hour earlier (they had none on display though) , oh well, live and learn.
I looked for the ones mentioned in this thread, but they were either out of stock, or slightly out of my budget.
Can anyone tell me if the Denon is actually any good?

Answers:

Yes - it's a fine amp. Although it sounds like you haven't actually demo'd any of the kit you've bought this week?...

Answers:

Well I demoed the KEFs, and was told if I didn't like the amp I could swap it for another one, so that sounded fine to me.
Now I have to junk (ahem, sell) my Sherwood amp and Paragidm sub and tiny - (tinny?) Sony speakers on eBay.

Answers:

Are the Marantz's Pronto friendly? ie. do they have discrete on/off and surround mode codes?
(thinking about it - my "pronto" is actually a Marantz so I should hope they are)
..oh, and are they a worthwhile upgrade from a Sony 830? I'm one of these flash buggers with a plasma so it needs to be happy staying on for hours of unemployed wife watching UK Living, QVC and Music channels as well as the full on DVD experience.
