Question:
Purchased this player from amazon.co.uk a couple of months ago. No problems until I picked up a couple of VCI FilmFour discs ( My Brother Tom and Jump Tomorrow ) the other day and found that they wouldn't play... tested on a friends player and they played just fine so not a disc issue. Contacted Pioneer who gave me this reply..
' All our DVD players are manufactured as region 2 only, however we are aware that some dealers are offering an 'upgrade' or 'modification' to make them multi-region compatible but please be advised that any such modification is not approved or authorised by Pioneer and therefore would invalidate the warranty. We would therefore advise you to contact your supplying dealer.'
both of these titles are a little obscure so not likely to bother many people but FilmFour titles in the past have caused problems on some budget players ( Queer as Folk springs instantly to mind! ) so may well be an issue at some point! Just so that you know Pioneer will have nowt to do with you. Going to send mine back... anyone wanna recommend a replacement? :(
I myself use the DV-454 version, although i havnt used the discs in question, but maybe it's a certain multi-region chip that's at fault or something, just a thought :)

I have this dvd player as a second player and purchased from Amazon too...
I'll bear that in mind. Mind you it's got to be Amazon's fault if they're invalidating the warranty. I'd think they'd sort it.
If I hit that snag I'd probably 'back up' the dvd which has the effect of removing the region.
But that's a whole different discussion...
I've got an MR DV-350 and the VCI Channel 4 titles Longitude and Shackleton play fine in this machine.
Yep seems to be just the titles I mentioned AFAIK, I've tried several other Film Four VCI titles and they play without problems. My concern is that it def doesn't play the two I've mentioned though agree with Savagexii could be down to the mod that amazon have used. Would be very interested to know if anyone with an unmodified DV-350 has problems with these discs.
I bought the 454 from amazon and when I had a (minor) problem with it they told me that Pioneer supplied the units multi-region enabled. This still invalidates the manufacturer's warranty but the unit is covered by amazon's own 12 month warranty instead.
Little Update. This player won't play another Film Four VCI disc Andrew Kottings' This Filthy Earth. Amazon no longer stock this player but have offered to refund me.
