Question:
Hi guys,
I'm looking to buy a budget home cinema projector (<1500 quid) for use at home. Based on a few (short) magazine reviews it would seem that the two front runners would be:
Panasonic AE100 about which a number of people have had positive things to say in other threads on the forums.
Sanyo PLV-Z1
The two cost approximately the same. Anybody able to offer comments/advice on these two machines ?
Scott
I have read good reviews of the Panasonic AE300. You can get that for £1,586.25, tiny bit above your budget but it would probably be worth it.
The price maddoguk quotes is available from Nexnix (http://www.nexnix.co.uk) and I'd thoroughly recommend them, having just bought from them myself (though not the AE300). Panny's seem to have more bad pixel problems (and other faults) than many other makes though. The Z1 is good by all accounts, but if you can find a good one, the panny is supposed to have a less visible "screendoor" than the sanyo. Check out the AV Forums (http://www.avforums.com) for more advice.
Oh, and demo whatever you get before you buy. I found that demo-ing was invaluable for me - I wouldn't buy blind, and I wouldn't get one without a pixel check first (Nexnix will do that for £20)
I bought a demo AE100 from Robert Whyte for £600 it really was the best money I have ever spent (especially considering the closest option was £500-1000 extra).
Might be worth considering??
What about the Infocus X1?
It's DLP so has its' advantages, but you need to see one just in case you can see the rainbow effect.
Gary.
