Bad BBC reception on Sky
Question:

Hi,
Recently, we've been getting bad reception on BBC1, and was wondering if anyone else is getting this. It was Ok up to about 3 weeks ago, but suddenly we're getting a lot of picture breakup, which makes it impossible to watch. This also happens on ITV, but that has been happening for a while. I've checked the signal strength, and it's about 2/3rds, which is what it's always been, as far as I can remember. Anyway, I was wondering if it could be the box? It's an Amstrad and it's about 5 years old now. Do I need a new box?
Thanks for any advice.

Hard to say really, we have Sky Digital so the picture is always fine so no problems here
I would probably suggest getting a new box, but before you do, maybe its best to phone up Sky and see if they sort out the problem over the phone or get an engineer out(It might save you a bit of money than forking out for a new box)
Also what are the other channels like???If they are still good maybe its a case of retuning BBC and ITV??? Also It might be a case of simply moving the dish to get a better reception(You would have to phone Sky about this though)
Hope this Helps

It seems that your dish might be slightly misaligned, a couple of weeks back the BBC moved their channels from Astra 2A to Astra 2D, hence the problem only starting then. The ITV channels are broadcast from the same satellite so that could explain why your ITV reception isn't very good either.

Thanks for the info, I'll try a power recycle tonight. However, I used to do that with ITV, and although it cured it initially, the picture breakup would return after a week or so.
I might try to realign my dish myself. Can I just nudge it this way and that, and check the signal strength on the set-top box? If that doesn't work, I'll get an enginneer in.

Have Sky bothered to tell any customers about this?
I've been having problems with just the BBC channels (that's all of them) since June and it's very random and intermittent and more than a little annoying as you never know when it'll be fine or borked!
